Christian Benford's Biography

Christian Benford was born on September 21, 2000, hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. He settled into life in Randallstown, Maryland where he carved out his early years, both on the football field and in the classroom at Randallstown High School. Benford’s raw talent for football began to shine in high school and as a senior, his skill was acknowledged as he was named All-Metro and All-Baltimore County. Christian’s prowess on the football field led him to represent Maryland in the prestigious Big 33 Football Classic.

With a vibrant high school football career behind him, Benford moved into the college football scene with ambition and a strong commitment. He was courted by several institutions, but devotedly chose to play for Villanova University, turning down an offer from Morgan State.

In his freshman year at Villanova, Benford got onto the field in nine of the matches, starting in eight of these. This feat was impressive for a true freshman, and his performance was commendable. His agility and football acumen allowed him to make 49 tackles, break up six passes, and execute an impressive five interceptions. Acknowledging his extraordinary contribution, Benford was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Rookie of the Year and was also placed in the third-team All-CAA.

His sophomore year saw Benford retaining a solid spot in the team, attaining seven starts in ten games played. This season saw him break up five passes and secure one interception. His endeavors won him the coveted first-team All-CAA distinction.

Following an unusual season curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Benford’s junior year still proved to be quite productive. Despite the season being postponed until 2021, his performance remained notable and he again secured a place in the first-team All-CAA.

In his senior year, Benford spectacularly surpassed his previous performances. He made 39 tackles and seven interceptions, a remarkable achievement by any standard. He was also successful in breaking up 18 passes – the highest number in the NCAA Division I FCS that season. This feat cemented Benford’s position as a key player, earning him another deserved first-team All-CAA selection.

Christian Benford’s journey to professional football was given its wings in 2022 when he was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round, making him the 185th overall pick in the NFL draft. He began his first professional season as the starting cornerback and made a memorable debut against the Los Angeles Rams, where he made three successful tackles and defended one pass.

Benford faced his first professional setback in week 3 when he fractured his hand in a match against the Miami Dolphins. He missed just two games due to the injury and made a triumphant return in a week six victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. A significant setback arrived in late November 2022, when he was placed on injured reserve. His fans and teammates breathed a collective sigh of relief when he recovered and was activated from injured reserve in January 2023, proving his resilience and dedication to the sport.
