Chase Roullier's Biography

Chase Roullier was born on August 23, 1993, in Burnsville, Minnesota. He became a highly respected figure in American professional football, contributing to the sport as a center. Having played for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL), the searing performances and indelible legacy he left behind marked his career as one firmly lodged in the annals of professional football.

In the early stages of his life, Roullier demonstrated exceptional talent in sports, playing proudly for Burnsville High School as a three-year starter. Not only did he contribute to the team as a two-time captain, but he also showcased his prowess on the field by securing a spot as a first-team all-state offensive lineman during his senior year. Here, he gained an honorable mention as an all-state defensive lineman that further underlined his potential. Roullier’s athletic skills were not constrained to football alone; he was a three-time letterman in high school basketball, further attesting to his sports versatility.

Choosing to continue his football journey, Roullier committed to Wyoming for his higher education, where he was a 2-star offensive guard recruit. He had other offers from Akron, Northern Iowa, Toledo, and Western Michigan. After being redshirted during his freshman year in 2012, he made a strong comeback the next season. During the 2013 season, he showed his skills in both guard and center positions, with appearances in 10 games, three of which he started.

He continued to shine in the 2014 season when he started all 12 games at left guard and received an honorable mention in the All-Mountain West team. His performance escalated in his redshirt junior year, leading him to start all 12 games played and earning him second-team All-Mountain West honors. For his redshirt senior season, he transitioned to the center position. This is where he earned first-team All-Mountain West, propelling his team to the conference championship game.

The year 2017 marked a monumental achievement for Roullier as the Washington Redskins selected him in the sixth round (199th overall) of the NFL draft. Although he suffered from an inevitable hand injury that caused him to miss three games, he managed to start seven at center in his rookie year. The seasoned player was undeterred by setbacks, starting every game at center in 2018 and showing a remarkable comeback following his injury.

The following year, Roullier once again displayed his resilience after a brief injury-formance, starting 14 games in the 2019 season. In 2021, he signed a four-year contract extension with Washington, worth a staggering $40.5 million. However, his career encountered a significant obstacle during the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos. Roullier suffered a fractured fibula in the second quarter of the game, causing him to be carted off the field and subsequently placed on injured reserve.

His struggle with injuries continued into the 2022 season, where he spent the first day of training camp on the active/physically unable to perform, before being activated the next day. Unfortunately, he fell victim to an MCL tear in his right knee in Week 2, and was once again placed on injured reserve. The Washington team released Roullier on May 5, 2023, after a fruitful career with the Redskins, Football Team, and Commanders from 2017 to 2022.

It was on July 5, 2023, that the football fraternity was dealt a blow when Roullier announced his retirement from professional football, citing injuries as the cause. Despite his retirement, Roullier’s career is emblematic of perseverance, resilience, and an unyielding dedication to the sport. His contributions to his teams and the sport of football more broadly will not be forgotten any time soon.
