Bryant’s journey into higher education started at Fort Scott Community College, where he was a redshirt freshman. He later transferred to Florida Atlantic University, kick-starting a successful four-year stint as a defensive end. Apart from his participation in athletics, he pursued an academic education in the fields of communication and political science.
During his junior year, he returned to Nebraska, an homage to his grandfather who used to play football there during the mid-1950s. Over his four years at Florida Atlantic University, Bryant prove his excellent defensive skills by clocking up 130 total tackles, 27.0 for loss, 13.5 sacks, 2 passes defended, and a forced fumble. His outstanding performance in the 2015 season saw him take home FAU’s comeback player of the year award.
His professional football career was initiated when he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Seattle Seahawks on May 6, 2016. He played in all four of their preseason games, compiling 3 total tackles. However, on September 3, 2016, Bryant was waived by the Seahawks.
Not long after, on October 24, 2016, Bryant was signed to the New York Jets’ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster towards the end of the year, on December 20, 2016.
The following year in August, Bryant was waived/injured by the Jets and was placed on injured reserve. He was eventually waived from IR on August 9, 2017.
Bryant’s career took another turn when the Cleveland Browns signed him on August 9, 2019. He was waived on August 31, 2019, and was subsequently signed to the practice squad the next day. Toward the end of the year, on November 22, 2019, the Browns elevated Bryant to their active roster. He was waived once again on December 21 st and was re-signed to the practice squad. The Browns later signed Bryant to their reserve/futures list on December 30, 2019. Bryant was waived by the Browns on May 8, 2020.
He later joined the Miami Dolphins on August 12, 2020. Bryant faced a challenge during his Dolphins stint when he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on August 15, 2020, however, he overcame this and was activated the next day. Bryant was eventually waived by the Dolphins on September 5, 2020.
Moving forward, on September 17, 2020, Bryant signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He received a chance to be part of the active roster on October 31 for the team’s week 8 game against the New England Patriots. He returned to the practice squad after the game but was later signed on a reserves/futures contract with the Bills on January 26, 2021.
After the Bills were eliminated from the Divisional Round of the 2021 playoffs, Bryant signed another reserve/future contract on January 24, 2022. He had a short stay in this position as he was waived by the Bills on August 30, 2022. However, he was promptly signed to the practice squad the next day and was promoted to the active roster by September 24. Bryant was eventually released by the Bills on November 1, 2022.
He then joined the Houston Texans practice squad on November 7, 2022, but was released the following month on December 12. On December 13, 2022, Bryant returned back to the Buffalo Bills, signing as part of the 53-man roster. On December 19, he was again released but was re-signed to the practice squad two days later. He bagged another reserve/future contract on January 23, 2023. However, his stint came to an end when was released on June 1, 2023.
The latest stop in his football journey was the New York Giants, who signed Bryant on July 24, 2023. However, his stint with the Giants was cut short as he was released on August 27 that same year. Despite his journey’s many ups and downs, Bryant’s contributions to the sport and his creative exploration into book writing remain commendable.
