Vasilije Micić, a reputed professional basketball player, is celebrated for his exceptional skills and contribution to the sport. Born on January 13, 1994, in Serbia, Micić has spent a substantial part of his career playing for the prestigious National Basketball Association’s (NBA) team, the Charlotte Hornets. His talent on the court is not confined to clubs, as he represents the Serbian national team in international competitions, carrying his country’s pride across global arenas.

Beginning his basketball journey with the OKK Beograd youth system from 2002 to 2006, Micić later played for Crvena zvezda juniors during 2006–07 and the FMP Železnik juniors team between 2007 and 2010. At the tender age of 16, he signed with Mega Vizura, where he made his Basketball League of Serbia debut. Micić went on to play 35 games in the 2010–2011 season, maintaining an average of 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending knee injury only eight games into the 2011–12 season.

Recovered and more determined than ever, Micić took on leadership roles within the team in the 2012–13 season, along with Boban Marjanović, leading the team to join the Adriatic League for the first time in the club’s history. This milestone marked Micić’s growing influence in the game as he averaged 11.8 points and 5 assists per game over 41 matches in the Serbian League.

Micić’s career took a leap in August 2014 when he signed a two-year deal with Bayern Munich. This ambitious move opened the opportunity for his debut in the 2014–15 Euroleague, despite suffering an elbow injury. Later on, he was loaned to Crvena zvezda for the remainder of the 2015–16 season. By mid-2016, Micić had joined the Turkish BSL club Tofaş and averaged 13.2 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds across 24 games.

The turning point in Micić’s career came when he signed a two-year contract with the Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas in June 2017. This was followed by another two-year contract with the Turkish club Anadolu Efes in 2018, leading to a significant boost in his career highs, averaging 12.1 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game in the 2018–19 EuroLeague season. Micić also witnessed unprecedented fame when he bagged the All-EuroLeague First Team and received the EuroLeague MVP award in the 2020-21 EuroLeague campaign.

Within the NBA framework, Micić entered the 2014 NBA draft and was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 52nd overall pick. The young player made several significant appearances throughout his career in the NBA. In December 2020, the 76ers traded Micić’s draft rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In July 2023, he signed a contract with the Thunder and later, in February 2024, was traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

Beyond club careers, Micić’s international prowess is loud and clear. In the EuroBasket 2017, Serbia won the silver medal, with Micić at the forefront of the team. His performance throughout the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was also noteworthy. Adding one more feather to his cap, Micić won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, representing Serbia.

Off the court, Micić is linked to professional sports through his sister, Nina, a professional snowboarder.
