Tyrese Maxey is a professional basketball player from Texas who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 6-foot-3 guard was selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is known for his scoring ability, plus athleticism and defense.
Maxey attended South Garland High School where he led his team to an undefeated regular season record as a senior. That same year, he won District 11-6A MVP honors and was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas. After graduating high school, Maxey elected to attend college at the University of Kentucky and subsequently declared for the 2020 NBA Draft following just one season with Wildcats.
In 2019–20 season at UK, Maxey had an impressive freshman campaign and averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game on 37% shooting from three point range. His best performance came against Michigan State when he scored 26 points in a 69–62 victory over Tom Izzo’s team, leading many analysts to believe that he could become a first round pick in June’s draft.
