Tre’shaun Albert “Tre” Mann was born on February 3, 2001, and is currently paving his way as an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). His journey unfolds through different levels of the sport, from his high school days in The Villages, Florida, to his college experience with the Florida Gators, and finally his current professional tenure in the NBA.
Tre Mann’s love for basketball was nurtured at The Villages Charter Schools in The Villages, Florida. Initiated into his school’s basketball team, he reached great heights as a junior, averaging 20 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Overcoming a major obstacle, a torn meniscus in his right knee suffered during the Class 5A-District 5 title game, Mann preserved and continued his ascend through the ranks. In his senior season, he was unstoppable, averaging 23.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The accumulated achievements earned him the title of the Daily Commercial All-Area Player of the Year. His relentless efforts garnered attention, and he was selected for prestigious events like the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.
Mann’s talent and potential caught the eyes of sports analysts and scouts as well; he was rated as a five-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, and a four-star recruit by ESPN. Those ratings boiled down to a critical decision on August 28, 2018, when Mann committed to playing college basketball for Florida, turning down keen offers from Kansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
His debut in a Florida outfit was a promising one with 11 points and four rebounds leading to a victorious game against North Florida. The freshman year saw him average an impressive 5.3 points per game. Following the completion of his first season, he declared for the 2020 NBA draft. However, given the opportunity to start as a point guard, Mann decided to return to Florida.
Mann kicked off his sophomore season on December 2, 2020, with a strong 19-point performance which led to a 76-69 victory against Army. The pinnacle of his college career came on March 12, 2021, when he recorded a career-high 30 points, although in a losing endeavor against Tennessee at the SEC tournament quarterfinals. His sophomore journey culminated with an average of 16 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Owing to his exceptional performances, Mann was named First Team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) by the league’s coaches, and Second Team All-SEC by the media. On March 24, he declared for the 2021 NBA draft, forfeiting his remaining college eligibility.
Fulfilling his childhood dream, Mann’s ticket to the professional league was punched when he was selected with the 18th pick in the 2021 NBA draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder. He put pen to paper on a contract with the Thunder on August 8, 2021, thus marking the start of his professional journey.
On April 9, 2023, Mann achieved his first career triple-double as he finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists in a notable win against the Memphis Grizzlies. His impressive performances forced a change in scenery for him on February 8, 2024, when he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets along with Dāvis Bertāns, Vasilije Micić, a 2024 second-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and cash considerations, in an exchange for Gordon Hayward.
