Souley Boum

Souleymane Boum, an adroit and agile professional basketball player, was born on January 26, 1999. An American national, Boum has set his footing in the Polish Basketball League (PLK) as a member of the MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza team. However, to fully encapsulate Boum’s journey, it is necessary to go back to his early years devoted to the game.

Boum’s tryst with basketball began at Oakland Technical High School, where his deftness and scoring skills allowed him to outshine his peers. Participants and supporters of the Oakland Athletic League acknowledged his talents and skill, crowning him the player of the year twice. Boum’s high school years weren’t just marked by success in school basketball tournaments. His contributions to the American Athletic Union circuit were equally distinguishing. Such an impressive run paved the way for him to land a scholarship offer from the University of San Francisco.

The scholarship allowed Boum to continue his sporting career while contributing to the San Francisco Dons basketball team on the college level. His game evolved and his skills were sharpened further during his stint at the university. His natural propensity to adapt allowed him to secure his spot in the starting lineup and then go on to be named in the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team.

Despite the initial success and recognition, the end of the season saw Souleymane Boum transfer to the University of Texas at El Paso, marking a new phase intersecting his sporting and academic journey. During his three seasons with the UTEP Miners basketball team, Boum emerged as a proficient scorer, averaging an impressive 16.9 points per game. His scoring exploits highlighted his evolving skills and helped him carve a niche for himself in the realm of college basketball.

However, an unprecedented global pandemic significantly affected the sporting landscape. The ensued disruptions in the NCAA regulations led Bouman to Xavier University as an extension of his eligibility. Under his imperatives as the point guard, the Xavier Musketeers clinched a second-place finish in the Big East Conference. Souleymane Boum continued his scoring trail amassing over 2,000 career points, hitting the milestone in a game against West Virginia on December 3, 2022. The regular season culminated with Boum’s stellar performances being recognized and him being named in the All-Big East first team.

Boum’s undeniable talent and scoring capacity, however, couldn’t secure him a spot in the 2023 NBA draft. Undeterred, he demonstrated his determination and signed on to join the Sacramento Kings in the 2023 NBA Summer League. The latter part of the year witnessed him signing a deal with Denver Nuggets on September 29, 2023.

Boum’s stint with the Nuggets was, however, short-lived as he was waived on October 13. Undeterred, he swiftly moved on and joined the Grand Rapids Gold on October 30, 2023. The following year unfolded another opportunity, signing a deal with MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza of the Polish Basketball League.

Away from the court, Boum’s saga is about more than basketball. Born to an emigrant mother from Guinea, Boum’s narrative is excitingly interspersed with his rich Guinean heritage. Today, he continues to write his story as a skillful embodiment of the American Dream, striving tirelessly and ceaselessly in his craft.
