Andrew Funk

Andrew David Funk, a well-known name in the sphere of professional basketball, was born on September 21, 1999. His journey in the world of basketball began as a high school player, carved a niche in college, and culminated in playing for the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently a valuable member of the Chicago Bulls, a notable team of NBA, on a two-way contractual term with the Windy City Bulls belonging to NBA’s G League. His remarkable playing skills in basketball have shone brightly throughout his collegiate games for the Bucknell Bison and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Funk’s integral schooling journey at Archbishop Wood High School presented various opportunities for his exposure to basketball. He was notably consistent in his performances – scoring double figures eleven times in his junior year alone. His incredible contribution warranted him the title ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ by the Philadelphia Inquirer as he facilitated the Vikings’ victory in their first Philadelphia Catholic League championship. Concurrently, they bagged the Class 5A PIAA state championship and the District 12 title – owing to an unmatched record of 28-3 under Funk’s assistance.

His senior year only accentuated his already impressive track record. The year witnessed Funk taking charge as a team captain and being crowned as the Philadelphia Catholic League Player of the Year. He was further recognized by his inclusion in the first-team All-PCL and the second-team All-Southeast Pennsylvania.

Funk’s professional basketball career began with the Bucknell Bison. After four successful college basketball seasons, he moved onto Penn State for his final season. Over the years, he amassed a commendable total of 1,693 points, with an average of 11.5 points per game. Additionally, he marked 457 rebounds, 302 pointers, and 237 assists to his illustrious college basketball career. His notable contribution of 12.5 points per game, 25 games with double-digit scoring marks, and eight games with 20-points in his graduate season at Penn State further delineated his talent. His performance ensured a place for Penn State in the NCAA Tournament after a gap of nearly a decade. Funk’s career-best shooting of 44.4% from the field with 41.2% from the 3-point range marked his graduate season.

The highlight of his college career was arguably when he scored a team-high 27 points leading Penn State to a splendid 76-59 victory over Texas A&M. This marked the Nittany Lions’ first NCAA Tournament victory since 2001. Honoring his performance, Funk was named honorable mention All-Big Ten and was also elected to the Academic All-District team.

Despite going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, Funk joined the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Summer League. His association with the Nuggets, however, was short-lived as he joined the Grand Rapids Gold on October 30 of the same year. During his tenure with the Gold, wherein he played 24 games, Funk averaged 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

His career took a decisive turn on February 25, 2024, when he signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, solidifying his position as a professional basketball player in the NBA.

On the personal front, Funk is the beloved son of Theresa and Albert Funk and has been raised alongside four brothers. Apart from being a skilled sportsman, Funk is also an educated individual. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bucknell and a master’s degree in management and organizational leadership from Penn State – qualifications that affirm his intellectual capabilities as well.
