Norman Powell is an NBA athlete who plays for the Toronto Raptors. He was born in San Diego, California and attended Lincoln High School where he was a two-time All-California Interscholastic Federation first team selection and a three-time San Diego Section Player of the Year. He then went on to play college basketball at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). While at UCLA, he helped lead his team to four NCAA tournament appearances including one Sweet 16 appearance during his junior year. His senior year, Powell was named Pac 12 Player of the Year as well as earning 1st Team All Pac 12 honors. After an impressive college career, Norman declared for the 2015 NBA Draft and was selected 46th overall by Milwaukee Bucks but traded immediately to Toronto Raptors when draft night ended.
Powell has been a steady contributor off the bench since entering The League in 2015; consistently contributes double figures each night while playing lock down defense against some of league’s top players like LeBron James and Stephen Curry. Over time his role with Toronto has grown steadily; from starting two games as a rookie to becoming an important 6th man for them this season averaging 10 points per game on 47% shooting from beyond arc which ranks him 5th among all shooting guards this season . During 2016/2017 playoffs he averaged 11 points per game helping Raptors reach second round before being eliminated by Cavaliers led by Lebron James .
Off court , Powell gives back through “Norm’s Kids Foundation” that provides opportunities for underprivileged youth & communities thru sports related programming & engagement within Greater Toronto area . In 2017 , Norm partnered with Junior Achievement Canada providing financial literacy program & mentorship programs within GTA school system On December 2018 , he donated over $100k worth Christmas Gifts (toys) via toy drive throughout GTA ; partnership between Norm’s Kids Foundation & Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment Community Fund
Overall Norman is regarded amongst peers across NBA fraternity not just because of what he does on court but also due to humbleness off it ; example set by him will continue inspire generations come !
