Miles James “Deuce” McBride, born on September 8, 2000, is a passionate American professional basketball player who currently struts his stuff for the New York Knicks in the esteemed National Basketball Association (NBA). This remarkable journey began with his fruitful collegiate basketball career at West Virginia for the renowned West Virginia Mountaineers.

Deuce was an impressive multi-sport athlete at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, showcasing talent and skill in both basketball and football, where he served as a formidable quarterback. In this sport-laden phase of his life, he had the fortune to play alongside his teammate, Jaxson Hayes, marking the duration of 2015 to 2018 with remarkable memories. As a sophomore, Deuce held an average score of 10.5 points, along with 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per contest, significantly contributing to his team reaching the finals of the intensely competitive Division I state championship in basketball.

Having proved his mettle on the basketball court, tragedy struck as he had to contend with a crippling left foot injury while playing a football game. This unfortunate incident transpired in his junior year, rendering him out of the game for almost an entire basketball season, but for the concluding two games. His comeback was noted for it led to a brilliant Division I state championship victory, etching Moeller High School’s name in glory. Choosing prudence over passion, he eschewed football engagement in his senior year to specifically focus on basketball, already foreseeing an accomplished basketball career.

In his senior season, vital contributions were apparent, as he held an impressive average record of 13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. These statistics were instrumental in driving Moeller to a spectacular 29-0 record season, culminating in another Division I state championship. Under his leadership, his team clinched its first undefeated season that had eluded them since 1995. A commendable record ensured his ranking as a three-star recruit, paving his way to commit to college basketball for West Virginia.

On November 8, 2019, McBride embarked on his basketball journey for West Virginia. His impressive debut, where he recorded 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a nerve-racking 94–84 win over Akron, was a testament to his unrelenting skill and undeniable talent. The following games were no different as he continued to impress with significant contributions, including scoring 21 points in a win against Ohio State and reaching a freshman season-high of 22 points in a victory over Texas Tech. These figures pushed his average to 9.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game as a freshman, earning him a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team

Come his sophomore season, and Deuce displayed no signs of stopping. Scoring 23 points in his season debut against South Dakota State, his momentum was unstoppable. His prowess was further showcased on February 6, 2021, when he demonstrated his skill, posting 29 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in a win against Kansas. His sophomore year saw him average 15.9 points, 4.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game, consequently earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors. McBride demonstrated his seriousness towards his career when he declared for the 2021 NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility.

The 2021 NBA Draft Day was a turning point in McBride’s career. Selected in the second round with the 36th pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder, he was soon traded to the New York Knicks, along with Rokas Jokubaitis and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Officially becoming part of the Knicks on August 6, 2021, Deuce had an impressive start in the 2021 NBA Summer League, where he averaged 15.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. He made an unforgettable regular-season debut on October 24, 2021.

By February 1, 2022, Deuce had been assigned to the Westchester Knicks where he immediately made a mark by scoring 39 points in a 117-107 win over the Delaware Blue Coats. Following year reflected his growing importance in the team when he received a contract extension from the Knicks for three years, worth $13 million. With the trade of guards RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, Deuce solidified his place in the Knicks rotation. He set new career highs in a game against the Golden State Warriors, achieving an awe-inspiring record of 29 points, six three-pointers, and 47 minutes of play, significantly contributing to their victory.

McBride’s journey to the NBA is made more special by his family lineage in sports. His parents, Walt and Kim McBride, have a rich sports background, with his father being a former basketball player at Xavier, and his mother, a Tennis player for Ohio State. Deuce’s older brother, Trey, too, shares a legacy of basketball and is currently playing for the Bayer Giants Leverkusen in Germany.
