Fairfax Harrison was born on March 13, 1869 and was an influential figure in American business and law during his lifetime until his death on February 2, 1938. Harrison’s distinguished career began in the legal profession where he offered his services to the Southern Railway Company in 1896. In a span of just a decade, Harrison cemented his role in the company by 1906, emerging as the vice-president of finance, a testament to his dedication and professional competence.

This was paralleled by his endeavor to increase the company’s railway track volume while also widening the geographic boundaries serviced by the railway.

Despite his many successes, Harrison was not immune to the challenges of his era. The advent of the Great Depression presented significant obstacles, pushing the Southern Railway Company to the brink of financial collapse. The railway industry was hit hard, but Harrison’s resolve and leadership helped the company weather the storm. By the year 1936, through strategic efforts, Southern managed to turn its fortunes around, making a triumphant return to profitability.

After serving for more than four decades, Harrison decided to retire in 1937. His retirement, however, was short-lived as he passed away just three months later.
