Jevon Carter is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on October 10, 1996 in Maywood, Illinois. He attended Proviso East High School where he played varsity basketball and earned All-State honors his senior year. After graduating from high school, Jevon attended West Virginia University and earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year awards all four years he attended college.
During his freshman season at WVU, Jevon made an immediate impact and was named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team for averaging nine points per game and two steals a game. As a sophomore, he increased his scoring to 13 points per game while helping lead the Mountaineers to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance as conference champions with a 24-10 record. This feat led to him being named 2nd team All-Big 12 Conference selection as well as becoming one of only six players in program history honored with three or more defensive player of the year awards.
In 2019 after graduating from WVU , Jevon declared for the NBA Draft where he was selected by Memphis Grizzlies with 32nd overall pick making him just third West Virginia Mountaineer drafted in 2018 draft class . During his rookie season , Jevon appeared primarily off bench logging 16 minutes per contest while playing 48 games before league suspension due to COVID 19 pandemic . Despite limited court time ,Jevon made most out of it by setting career highs towards end of regular season for points(21) steals(4) rebounds (9) blocks (3).
Following offseason trade sending him from Memphis Grizzlies to Phoenix Suns organization ,Jevon has continued developing under guidance of veteran coaching staff led by Monty Williams during 2020/2021 campaign . His current role has been that off defensive specialist often assigned task off guarding opposing teams best offensive options .
