Feron Hunt's Biography
Born on July 5, 1999, Feron Hunt is a dedicated professional American basketball athlete currently playing for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. His journey in the sport has led him from college to professional leagues, gaining both experience and reputation all through.
As a young sophomore in high school, Hunt moved from New Orleans to Texas. This relocation was a turning point in Hunt’s basketball career as he started to play for DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Demonstrating exceptional talent and agility on the court, he averaged 11.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game during his senior year. His knack for the sport was undeniable and this caught the attention of several college scouts.
The promising player first committed to play for the TCU’s college basketball team, but after a month, he decided to decommit. Showing the maturity of a professional player at a young age, Hunt navigated through his options with precision. After considering several other colleges, including Arkansas and Texas A&M, he decided on SMU where he represented the SMU Mustangs in college-level games.
Hunt’s dedication and persistence paid off in a spectacular way on March 10, 2019. Run unchallenged, he secured 17 points and registered a career-high 14 rebounds in a victory against South Florida. As a freshman, he averaged a consistent 7.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
In his second year in college, he continued to show a stellar performance, averaging 11 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. On February 12, 2020, Hunt achieved a career-best 23 points and seven rebounds in a tight win against UConn. However, his aspiration for professional leagues made him declare for the 2020 NBA draft. He later withdrew his decision and returned to college to gain more experience and maturity.
During his junior year, he even considered sitting out the season to dedicate his time to social justice issues. Nonetheless, on the court, Hunt’s junior season was unparalleled. On November 30, 2020, he scored his highest of the season – 19 points in a match against Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. By the end of the season, his average was 11.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. His exceptional performance granted him the honor of being included in Third Team All-American Athletic Conference.
In 2021, he declared for the NBA draft, deciding to forego his remaining college eligibility. Despite not being drafted, Hunt still managed to make a mark in the NBA. He joined the Dallas Mavericks for the NBA Summer League and signed with them officially on August 21, 2021. However, he was soon waived.
Not one to be disheartened, Hunt carried on and signed with the Texas Legends as an affiliate player later that year. He managed an average of 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.9 steals per game in his stint.
In a twist of fate, he secured a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in December 2021 via the hardship exemption. Although he didn’t play a game for the Pelicans, he was reacquired by the Texas Legends early in 2022.
Presenting his superior game, Hunt managed to sign a two-way contract with the New York Knicks on March 18, 2022. However, the Knicks waived him later that year, leading him to be reacquired by the Westchester Knicks. In a subsequent deal, the Birmingham Squadron acquired him from the Westchester Knicks.
September 1, 2023 marked another significant development in Hunt’s career as he signed with the Meralco Bolts of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as the team’s import for the 2023–24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup. However, before the season even began, he was released from the team.
Today, Hunt plays as a professional basketball player for the Cleveland Charge. He joined the team on March 18, 2024 and continues to carve out a promising career in the basketball world.
