DaQuan Jeffries's Biography

DaQuan Marquel Jeffries, born on August 30, 1997, has made a mark in the world of professional basketball in America as a dedicated player of the NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets. His nostalgic journey started in college basketball, playing for the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, followed by a switch to Western Texas Westerners before finally graduating from the renowned Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

At Tulsa, after an impressive two seasons of college basketball, Jeffries signified his skill level in his senior years, averaging 13 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He subsequently received the prestigious honor of being named to the Third-team All-American Athletic Conference. Post this fruitful season, Jeffries took part in the coveted Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

Despite being initially projected as a second-round pick, Jeffries faced a streak of bad luck going undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft. Nonetheless, his talent wasn’t unnoticed, being signed with the Orlando Magic on June 21, 2019. Contrary to expectations, Jeffries declined a two-way deal, exhibiting his competitiveness by aspiring for a roster spot with the team. Unfortunately, the deal with Magic came to an end when the Magic released Jeffries on October 19, 2019.

Embracing change, Jeffries signed a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings on October 21, 2019. The terms of the deal allowed Jeffries to split his time betwixt the Kings and their NBA G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings. The journey with Kings continued as Jeffries signed a standard contract on November 28, 2020. However, on April 3, 2021, he was waived by the Kings after appearing in 31 games spanning two seasons. Following this, Jeffries was claimed off waivers by the Houston Rockets on April 5, 2021. Unfortunately, his journey with the Rockets ended prematurely when he was waived after 13 appearances on May 13, 2021.

Moving forward, Jeffries was claimed off waivers by the San Antonio Spurs on May 15, 2021. Thereafter, on October 7, 2021, Jeffries signed with the Atlanta Hawks, but was waived on October 15. Post his short tenure with the Hawks, Jeffries signed with the College Park Skyhawks in October 2021. He averaged 15.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game during his tenure with the Skyhawks.

However, another change came soon with Jeffries signing a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on January 1, 2022, due to hardship exemption. After appearing in three games and scoring 2 total points, he returned to the College Park Skyhawks on January 11, 2022.

Later in the same year, Jeffries signed with the New York Knicks on September 15, 2022, only to be waived at the end of training camp. He, then, joined the Westchester Knicks on October 24, 2022. His play for the NBA G League team led to his signing a two-way contract with the New York Knicks on November 29, 2022. This contract was converted to a 10-day contract on March 5, 2023, which was further extended to a second 10-day contract on March 16, and finally to a standard deal on March 26. However, he was waived by the New York Knicks on December 30, 2023. Subsequently, he rejoined the Westchester Knicks on January 2, 2024.

In a series of short contracts with the New York Knicks and rejoining the Westchester Knicks, Jeffries was finally signed and traded to the Charlotte Hornets on October 2, 2024. This was a three-team trade involving the Minnesota Timberwolves which acquired Keita Bates-Diop, Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle, and a first-round lottery-protected pick. The Hornets, in addition to Jeffries, also received Charlie Brown Jr., Duane Washington Jr., three second-round picks, and draft compensation. New York, in turn, acquired Karl-Anthony Towns and the draft rights to James Nnaji.
