Born in Montreal, Canada, on June 13, 1996, he spent his early years in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Chris Duarte then transferred to the University of Oregon for his junior and senior years, playing with the Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Conference. Despite the high level of competition, Duarte thrived, impressing both coaches and scouts around the country with his court awareness, shooting skills, and defensive prowess.

In his senior year, he averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists per game while shooting an impressive 53.2% from the field, including 42.4% from beyond the arc. Following a standout senior year at Oregon, Duarte declared for the 2021 NBA Draft.
