In his freshman year at Northwestern, Buie made an incredibly notable impression. Maintaining a consistent level of performance, he participated in 26 games, starting in 11 of them. He finished his debut collegiate season with an impressive average of 10.3 points per game, and was a close second on the team with 63 assists and 17 steals.

In his senior year, Buie’s command on the game become quite apparent as he was named to the first team All-Big Ten Conference and to the second team by the league’s coaches. He finished his senior year averaging 17.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game, once again proving an asset to his team.

Intriguingly, Buie decided to return to Northwestern for a fifth season, bringing further experience to the team. During this extended college basketball career, his significant achievements include scoring his 2,000th career point at Rutgers in February 2024, and surpassing John Shurna as Northwestern’s all-time leading scorer a week later. This led Buie to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft after the Wildcats’ second-round exit from the 2024 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament.

Despite his impressive records in college basketball, Buie was overlooked in the 2024 NBA draft. Nevertheless, his resolve remained unshaken, which led him to join the Phoenix Suns in the 2024 NBA Summer League. His performance caught the attention of the recruiters at the New York Knicks, who signed him on October 7, 2024. Even though he was waived shortly after, Buie continued to press forward, eventually joining the Western Knicks in late October.
