Pavin Smith's Biography

Pavin Joe Smith, born on February 6, 1996, in Jupiter, Florida, is a distinguished American profession baseball player. Recognized as an accomplished first baseman and right fielder, Pavin now establishes his baseball prowess with the Arizona Diamondbacks, an elite team of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Pavin’s exposure to baseball began in his childhood, and he showcased his potential during the Babe Ruth League’s 2008 Cal Ripken Major70 World Series. Representing his hometown team of Jupiter, Florida, his distinguished performance, including two groundbreaking home runs, led to the decisive victory over Mexico with a 5-4 scoreline.

Later, Pavin attended Palm Beach Gardens Community High School, where he developed his expertise as a first baseman and pitcher for the school’s baseball team. His impressive debut as a pitcher saw a commendable 5-0 win-loss record. What made it more remarkable was his astounding 0.66 earned run average, with an impressive 54 strikeouts scattered over 32 innings pitched. His peerless performance caught the attention of the Colorado Rockies, who selected him in the 32nd round of the 2014 MLB draft. However, Pavin decided not to sign at the time.

Completing high school, Pavin proceeded to further his education at the University of Virginia. On the baseball field, he quickly became an integral part of the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team. Playing the 2015 season with an ulnar collateral ligament injury was a significant challenge but did not dampen his spirit or performance. Illustrating his unwavering commitment to the game, Pavin scored the game-winning hit in the second game of the 2015 College World Series against Vanderbilt. The aftermath of the game brought another hurdle as he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Post-surgery, Pavin proved his determination by returning to the field in the 2016 season. Despite a setback, he hit eight home runs as a sophomore. His performance led to a summer stint with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he not only excelled but was also named a league all-star. Continuing his upward trajectory, Pavin batted an average of .342, hit 13 home runs, and took 12 strikeouts during his junior year in 2017.

Arizona Diamondbacks took notice of Pavin’s caliber and decided to secure him with the seventh overall selection of the 2017 MLB draft. Carving his professional path, Pavin signed with the Diamondbacks and received a whopping $5,016,300 signing bonus. He debuted professionally with the Hillsboro Hops of the Low-A Northwest League. He quickly adapted, showcasing a promising .318 batting average with 27 runs batted in over 51 games. This resounding performance led to his selection as a postseason All-Star.

The subsequent seasons saw Pavin strengthen his skills, playing with the Visalia Rawhide of the High-A California League in 2018, the Jackson Generals of the Double-A Southern League in 2019, and finally making his major league debut against the Seattle Mariners in 2020. Over time, Pavin gathered considerable experience and developed a remarkable .267/.328/.404 hitting record in 145 games for the Diamondbacks in 2021.

Pavin continued with a notable performance in both the 2022 and 2023 season, hitting 9 and 7 home runs respectively. Although he spent some time honing his skills once again in Triple-A Reno, he was consistently called back owing to his solid performance. Pavin’s exceptional stint against the Houston Astros in September 2024, where he hit three home runs, decidedly cemented his position as a formidable player.

Off the field, Pavin has shown a deep sense of gratitude and commitment towards his family. Being the son of a sports agent, he was introduced early to the sporting world. In 2017, he expressed this gratitude by paying off his parents’ mortgage as a Christmas gift. He is also married to former University of Florida gymnast, Amanda Cheney. Pavin Joe Smith hence stands out as a commendable sportsperson, combining skill, resilience, and a sense of responsibility both inside and outside of the baseball field.
