Corbin Carroll's Biography

Corbin Franklin Carroll – A Stellar Baseball Life

Corbin Franklin Carroll, a biracial American professional baseballer was born on August 21, 2000, in Seattle, Washington, to Brant, an Irish-American, and Pey-Lin, a Taiwanese immigrant. Carroll’s early years pathed within an Asian-American neighborhood in Seattle as part of a tight-knit family, together with a younger sister whose love for soccer led her to Holy Names Academy.

Keen to improve his speed, Carroll indulged in cross-country sports, a hobby that proved beneficial in his future career as a baseball outfielder. The love and proficiency for the game of baseball led Carroll to play for the USA 18U National Team, culminating in a Gold win during the 2018 COPABE Pan-American Championships. During this time, he further grew his talent while attending Lakeside School in Seattle. As a senior in 2019, his stellar performance resulted in a .540 average with nine home runs and a 1.859 OPS.

In the 2019 Major League Baseball draft, Carroll was selected as the 16th overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks on the back of his high school performance. Carroll signed on to the team for $3.7 million, kickstarting his professional baseball career in the Arizona League Diamondbacks.

However, his sporting career took an unfortunate turn in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the minor league season. Despite the setback, Carroll returned to Hillsboro to commence the 2021 season, but an early shoulder injury led to the end of his season.

Battling odds, Carroll resumed his season with the Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2022. Mid-season, he was promoted to the Reno Aces. Despite playing across three minor league teams during this year, Carroll batted a .307 average with 24 home runs and 31 steals, earning him a call-up to the major leagues by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Corbin Franklin Carroll finally debuted in the major leagues against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 29, 2022. Following a thrilling debut, he signed an eight-year contract extension with the Diamondbacks valued at $111 million. The 2023 season saw Carroll making a significant impact for the Diamondbacks right from the onset.

During his rookie year, Carroll became Arizona’s first National League Rookie of the Year, the first rookie to record 25 home runs with 50 stolen bases, and the first to have 10+ triples, 25+ doubles, 25+ home runs, and 50+ stolen bases all in one season. This unsurpassed performance earned him a unanimous vote as the National League Rookie of the Year and an unwavering spot in the All-MLB First Team as an outfielder.

Through the playoffs, despite initial struggles, Carroll’s performance in game 7 led to an unforgettable win over Philadelphia Phillies, enabling the Diamondbacks to reach the 2023 World Series, their first since 2001.

But the story of Carroll’s baseball life was far from over. The first half of the 2024 season took a downward turn for Carroll as he struggled with his performance. With focus and determination, however, he managed to turn things around in the second half. Focusing on better contact and driving the ball in the air boosted his performance, as reflected in a series of significant games played against the Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, and the New York Mets.

With his outstanding performance in the month of August, Carroll earned the NL Player of the Month award, concluding another remarkable chapter in his still-unfolding baseball life. It’s clear that Carroll’s journey from a kid from Seattle to becoming one of the most recognized names in Major League Baseball is a testament to his exceptional talent, determination, and dedication to the sport.
