Kutter Crawford's Biography

Kutter Martin Crawford was born on April 1, 1996, in the United States. He etched his name as a renowned baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB), playing for the Boston Red Sox. The year 2021 marked his entry into the Major League Baseball, featuring him as a rising player in the sports world.

The rising pitcher towers at 6 feet 1 inch, with a weight that clocks in around 209 pounds. He is a right-handed player adept at both batting and throwing. Crawford was born into an athletic family to parents Neal and Kristy Crawford.

His pursuit of baseball started in Okeechobee High School, Florida, where Crawford became a prominent athlete in both golf and baseball over four years. He showcased extraordinary skills in his senior season, achieving the highest average of .340 on the team. Not only did he excel on the field, but he also bagged the title of the Okeechobee High School Most Valuable Player.

His academic journey led him to Indian River State College, where he spent his freshman and sophomore years. In 2015, during his freshman year, he made a significant impact by scoring 3-2 in 9 appearances, with a 4.15 ERA. This achievement placed him on the FCSAA All-Academic Team and the Dean’s List. His sophomore season in 2016 witnessed Crawford making 14 appearances, with a 1-2 record and a 4.05 ERA. His valuable contribution of striking out a whopping 69 team-leading displays while acquiring 80.0 IP earned him recognization as a promising player.

Following his exceptional two years, Crawford transferred to Florida Gulf Coast University. It was a defining period in his career, as he led the ASUN, ranking eighth in the NCAA, with a striking 1.71 ERA. IN addition to this, he was titled ASUN First Team All-Conference, which added to his accolades. His successful expedition in college concluded with his selection in the 16th round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox, making him the first Eagle to be drafted.

Crawford embarked on his professional journey in 2017, with a single start with the Class A Short Season Lowell Spinners of the New York–Penn League. He demonstrated his potential in 2018 while splitting his time with the Class A Greenville Drive and Class A-Advanced Salem Red Sox. Here, he made an impressive 27 starts and balanced a 7–7 win–loss record with a 3.26 earned run average (ERA). Crawford returned to the Salem Sox in 2019 and was promoted to Portland Sea Dogs of Double-A. Unfortunately, after one game post mid-July, he had to undergo Tommy John surgery in 2019.

While the 2020 season could have offered a comeback for Crawford, the minor-league season’s cancellation and the bone spur removal surgery on his elbow thwarted his professional pursuits.

Crawford picked up his momentum in the 2021 season, starting in Portland and advancing to Worcester Red Sox of Triple-A. In September, amidst the havoc of the Covid-19 pandemic, Crawford was added to Boston’s active roster as a replacement. Crawford’s career saw brief interruptions due to a shift in roster, injuries, and restrictions related to Covid-19.

In the world away from the diamond, Crawford also participated in the offseason Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). As a testament to his talent, he was added to the 40-man roster by Boston ahead of the Rule 5 draft in November 19. Moreover, his contributions earned him the Red Sox’ Lou Gorman Award, naming him as a significant player in the team.

The year 2022 witnessed Crawford’s oscillation between his position on the Red Sox active roster and occurrences of injuries and restrictions. Despite the various setbacks, Crawford managed an impressive 3–6 record in a total of 21 games, commandeering 12 starts with a 5.47 ERA and striking out 77 players in 77+1⁄3 innings.

2023 began with Crawford being chosen for Boston and then being optioned to Worcester for replacement by Garrett Whitlock, marking his career’s continuous ascents and descents.

The legacy of the Crawford family in Major League Baseball extends, as Crawford’s older brother, Jonathon Crawford, was a first-round selection in the 2013 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers. The shared love for baseball serves as a bond in the Crawford family, depicting them as carriers of sporting greatness.
