Isiah Kiner-Falefa's Biography

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, an American professional baseball utility player known in short as IKF, was born on March 23, 1995. Currently, he is playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball (MLB), having also been a past member of the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays teams in MLB.

Kiner-Falefa was born and spent his childhood in Hawaii where he pursued his early education in Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu. Post his schooling, he was drafted by Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the MLB draft in 2013. His initial years were spent in the Rangers’ minor league system for about five seasons before landing a place in their major league line-up, debuting in April 2018.

The year 2020 saw IKF achieving the prestigious American League Gold Glove Award at third base. He headed the Rangers in batting categories for the consecutive years of 2020 and 2021. He was traded to the Minnesota Twins prior to the 2022 season but was then immediately flipped to the Yankees as part of a multi-player deal.

Initial years of his MLB career saw Kiner-Falefa debuting professionally with the Arizona League Rangers and continued throughout 2013, contributing a batting average of .322 with 11 RBIs and 12 stolen bases for 41 games. His performances in the following seasons continued to be recorded in triple-digit games and near .300 batting averages with notable contributions to the teams he was part of.

The spring training of 2023 saw IKF debuting as a pitcher, marking historic moments such as recording the slowest tracked pitch in Yankees history and stealing home for the first time since 2016. He shares the distinction of being the first Yankees position player to pitch three times in a season and hitting a home run as a pitcher since 1972.

Towards the end of 2023, Kiner-Falefa turned into a free agent. However, he soon inked a deal with Toronto Blue Jays on December 29, 2023, initiating a contract of two years that amounted to 15 million dollars. He demonstrated a phenomenal performance for Toronto in 2024 but was then traded to Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Charles McAdoo on July 30, 2024.
