Eli White's Biography
The biography of Elijah Thomas White presents a journey of his career as a determined athlete, humble beginnings, and the challenges faced along the way. White, born on June 26, 1994, is a professional baseball outfielder who has carved a path of his own into the Major League Baseball (MLB), currently playing for the Atlanta Braves.
His journey began in Piedmont, South Carolina, where he attended Wren High School. In 2013, he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB draft during the 26th round, an accomplishment he did not immediately leap on. Instead, he decided to further cultivate his skills and proceeded to attend Clemson University, where his athleticism shone brightly as he played college baseball for the Tigers.
Despite being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2015 MLB draft, yet again he felt it necessary to further strengthen his skills and returned to Clemson. During the summer of that same year, Elijah played for the Brewster Whitecaps, a member of the Cape Cod League.
In 2016, his junior season saw an affirmation of his dedicated efforts, he was drafted by the Oakland Athletics for a signing bonus of $100,000. He spent his first professional season playing for the Arizona League Athletics and Vermont Lake Monsters. During this period, he hit an average of .275 with two home runs and 25 RBIs in a total of 56 games.
His subsequent years were filled with impressive outcomes. His performance continued to improve, hitting four home runs and 36 RBIs in 2017 as he played for the Stockton Ports. Elijah’s performance saw even greater heights in 2018 where he played for the Midland RockHounds, putting up remarkable numbers including nine home runs, 55 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases.
White’s talent was soon recognized by the Texas Rangers, and he was acquired from the Athletics in December 2018 as part of a three-team trade deal. However, a shoulder injury following a grim incident involving an outfield wall brought his season to an unfortunate early end in August 2019. Despite the setback, he managed to end the year with a .253/.320/.418/.738 slash line, 14 home runs, and 43 RBI across 116 games.
His MLB debut came on September 1, 2020, where he proved himself against the Houston Astros. The following year, he scored his first two career home runs, one against the Astro’s Zack Greinke and the second off Astros’ Cristian Javier.
White continued his journey with the Texas Rangers until a right wrist fracture led to surgery in June 2022, effectively ending his season once more. Unfortunately, by the end of the same year, he was designated for assignment.
However, the end of the year also brought a new beginning as White was traded to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations in the final week of December 2022. He started with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers in the subsequent 2023 season but ended it prematurely due to yet another unfortunate injury, a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Following the short-lived stint in the major leagues, he got released by the Braves. Not letting this hold him back, he promptly re-signed with them on a minor-league contract just three days later. White persevered, once again playing for the Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the 2024 season. His performance flourished, claiming seven home runs, 28 RBI, and 18 stolen bases over 53 games.
The shining beacon of Elijah White’s dedication and hard work was reflected brightly in July 2024, when his contract was selected by the Braves, promoting him back into the major league roster. From his high school baseball accomplishments to his stint with the Atlanta Braves, White’s career reflects a series of highs and lows. It is through his perseverance that he continues to redefine his journey.
