Albert Suarez's Biography

Albert Joe Suárez Subero, more widely recognized as Albert Suárez, was born on October 8, 1989, in Venezuela. A man of exceptional talent and skill, he built a flourishing career as a professional baseball pitcher. Suárez predominantly demonstrated his abilities in Major League Baseball (MLB), where he pitches for the Baltimore Orioles. Previously, his career has seen him play for the San Francisco Giants in the MLB, as well as international stints in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, and the KBO League for the Samsung Lions.

Suárez’s baseball journey began in earnest on July 2, 2006, when he was signed as an international free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays organization. His professional career was launched in 2008 when he played for the rookie ball Princeton Rays. During his time with the team, Suárez made 11 appearances with nine starts, boasting a 3.92 ERA even though he was yet to secure a victory.

In 2009, Suárez further honed his skills with the Low-A Hudson Valley Renegades, earning a combined 1–0 with a 2.79 ERA in two starts. Over the subsequent years, Suárez showed consistent improvement, playing for the GCL Rays and the Single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods. He finished the 2010 season with a combined 2–5 with a 3.38 ERA in 15 games. Demonstrating his potential and growing prowess, Suárez was added to the Rays’ 40-man roster on November 19, 2010.

The 2011 and 2012 seasons saw Suárez making strides with commendable performances. However, the end of August 2012 brought a significant change when Suárez was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay. Rebounding quickly, he performed impressively for Double-A Montgomery Biscuits in 2013, posting a 1.42 ERA.

Seizing the opportunity to chart an independent path, Suárez elected free agency on November 4, 2013. Barely a week later, he decided to re-sign with Tampa Bay under a new minor league contract. In 2014, he continued to sharpen his skills and posted a 4–6 with a 3.60 ERA in 14 starts.

2014 ended on a high note for Suárez as he signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, along with the opportunity to participate in the Spring Training. The following year saw him earning a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star selection after a strong stint with Double-A Arkansas Travelers, where he recorded an 11–9 with a 2.98 ERA.

In November 2015, Suárez inked a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants organization, where he earned an invitation to major league spring training. This new journey landed him in Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Suárez made his major league debut in May 2016. In his debut, the talented pitcher did not disappoint and went on to earn his first major league win shortly after.

Suárez’s career with the Giants came to an end in 2017, but not before he exhibited commendable performance despite battling various challenges. After leaving the Giants, Suárez underwent a brief stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks before signing with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of the NPB in December 2018. He then moved on to the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization, where he played a successful season in 2022.

However, 2023 brought an unforeseeable turn to Suárez’s career as an injury forced him out of the Lions. Yet, the setback never shook his spirit, and within a month, he signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Today, Suárez is back in the MLB circuit, pitching for the Baltimore Orioles and showing no signs of slowing down. His professional journey and steadfast determination are a testament to his talent and never-give-up spirit. Suárez continues to contribute his skills and expertise to the world of baseball, invariably leaving his indelible mark on the game. Interestingly, his brother, Robert Suárez, is also a Major League Baseball pitcher, currently playing for the San Diego Padres.
