MMA fans were treated to another exciting match up between bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo and contender Aljamain Sterling. This highly anticipated fight has been building for months, with both fighters expressing their desire to face off in the cage. But before they can do that, they had a few words to say about the upcoming bout.
At a pre-fight press conference this past Thursday, Cejudo confidently predicted that he would come out victorious and that it wouldn’t go past three rounds. He said: “I’m missing my belt right now; I want it back in the worst way possible,” adding: “This is going to be one of those fights where I prove why I’m still king.” He also expressed his admiration for Sterling’s skillset, saying: “Aljamain is an amazing talent… he’s got so much potential.”
Sterling was equally as confident about his own chances in the fight, saying: “Henry knows what’s coming…he understands what type of pressure fighter I am and how diverse my attack can be. But on June 26th…you will see me become something greater than ever before.” He added some lighthearted banter by referencing Cejudo’s Olympic background: “We all know who won gold when we were kids growing up — but silver ain’t too shabby either”.
The two have engaged in plenty of trash talk leading up to this fight — with each taking shots at each other over social media — but there was a mutual respect between them at the press conference which should make for an even more intense battle come June 26th. With such confident remarks from both fighters and so much anticipation built up around this matchup, MMA fans are sure to be in for an incredible night full of action!
When asked whether or not he thinks Cejudo will follow through on his prediction that it won’t last longer than three rounds Sterling responded with confidence stating “It’s gonna last until Henry decides if he wants one more round.” It looks like only time will tell whether or not Cejudo can live up to his prediction but one thing is certain; MMA fans are eagerly awaiting this thrilling bout!
