José Peñaloza walked into his UWC 43 bout with an impressive cauliflower ear, however it wasn’t enough to stand up to the punishment he took from Dorian Ramos. Midway through the featherweight bout Peñaloza’s right ear began to swell and ultimately exploded just moments before being stopped in Round 2.
The gruesome scene was captured by spectators on social media as Peñaloza’s ear swelled to a grotesque size. As if that weren’t enough, Ramos’ ground and pound only compounded matters for Peñaloza as his swollen ear eventually burst open prompting the referee to step in and wave off the fight at 2:57 of Round 2.
Peñaloza slumped away from the cage after taking a loss that saw Ramos improve his record 6-1 while dropping Penaoloza’s down 3-2 in Tijuana, Baja Mexico. The stoppage due to injury marked one of Penaolozas first losses since making his debut back on 2021 where he won three straight bouts via unanimous decision over Carlos Plasencia, Dante Almeida and Agustin Castro respectively.
Unfortunately for Peñaoloza things went south against Ramos who put together a well rounded performance highlighted by some powerful striking which forced him onto the mat multiple times throughout their fight before finally ending it with an impressive display of ground and pound followed by a stoppage due o injury near end of round two as reported by UFC Fight Pass on twitter @UFCFightPass #UWC43 . After suffering such an unfortunate defeat it will be interesting too see what is next for José Penaolozza but one thing is certain –– we haven’t seen or heard the last from this scrappy fighter just yet…
