BIOGRAPHY

Mohammed Usman (born August 12, 1992) is a Nigerian-American mixed martial artist competing in the Welterweight and Lightweight divisions of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is of Yoruba heritage from Nigeria. His parents are Alhaji Musa Umaru and Hajiya Umma Isyaku.

Usman began training in mixed martial arts at a young age under his father’s guidance. He developed an early interest in boxing which eventually led him to Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Usman competed on several circuits throughout his career including United Combat League, Gladiator Challenge, VFC Fight Night and Global Proving Grounds before joining UFC in 2015 where he was signed to fight Demian Maia at UFC 190.

Usman made an impressive debut by defeating Maia via unanimous decision at the event and continued to win further fights such as Neil Magny, Ricardo Lamas, Sergio Moraes, Kamaru Usman and Warlley Alves over the next few years with eye-catching performances that earned him recognition among fans within no time. In 2019 he defeated Anthony Rocco Martin via unanimous decision for his third consecutive victory earning himself an impressive “Performance of The Night” bonus award from UFC following which he knocked out Sergio Moraes on November 16th winning another “Performance of The Night” award along with a $50k bonus for two record setting wins against top contenders on the same night!

In June 2020 Mohammed Usman became part of coaching staff for The Ultimate Fighter 28 featuring Heavyweights & Women’s Featherweights representing team USA vs Team UK as one of coaches alongside Robert Whittaker & Darren Till respectively aiding US fighters while also providing insight into MMA fundamentals helping them become better combatants during their fight week preparation leading up to each episode broadcasted live around world by ESPN+ network!
