Melissa Dixon is an American mixed martial artist and former professional boxer who currently competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) women’s bantamweight division. She made her professional MMA debut in 2013, and has since gone on to become one of the most successful female fighters in the sport.
Growing up, Melissa was a three-sport athlete. She excelled in basketball, cross country running, and track & field throughout high school before graduating with honors from East Tennessee State University. After college she started training Muay Thai at a local gym near her home town of Johnson City, TN, which eventually led to her transition into MMA competition.
Before competing professionally for MMA Melissa had an impressive amateur career that included several state championships as well as two National Amateur Boxing Association titles – winning both the featherweight and lightweight divisions at separate events. Shortly after becoming a professional fighter she made her debut for Texas’s Legacy FC promotion where she quickly earned recognition due to her aggressive approach inside the octagon – earning five consecutive first round finishes en route to claiming their featherweight title belt by late 2014/early 2015.
In 2016 Melissa signed with UFC following their acquisition of Legacy FC’s rosters – making history along side fellow teammates as being some of the first women ever to join their newly formed straw weight division for competitors weighing 115lbs or less. Since then she has gone on to become one of UFC’s rising stars amongst female competitors having racked up multiple wins over notable opponents such as Sarah Moras via decision victory back during 2017’s International Fight Week event held annually within Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena complex; whilst also pushing perennial veteran contender Germaine de Randamie all 15 rounds when they clashed via split decision just this past summer during UFC Fight Night: Los Angeles located within California’s The Forum arena facility earlier this year..
Outside fighting Melissa enjoys spending time outdoors hiking or biking through various trails throughout Southern California; whilst also being a self proclaimed foodie often frequenting local restaurants across Metro Los Angeles sampling out different dishes whenever possible alongside friends or family members alike.. In addition she loves visiting nearby beaches during free time off; attending concerts hosted by live music venues scattered around different parts of Downtown L A while picking up new hobbies here & there whenever possible such items ranging anywhere between pottery making classes offered by LA locals all way down towards learning how surf along Malibu coastlines during recent trips taken out towards West Coast region spanning from California on over towards Oregon throughout last few years respectively..
