BIOGRAPHY

Ismail Naurdiev, a decorated mixed martial artist, was born on August 18, 1996, in Grozny, Chechnya, Russia. His life took a dramatic turn at the tender age of nine in 2004. Amidst the chaos and unrest in his war-torn home city of Grozny, his family sought refuge in Austria, hoping for stability, peace, and a chance at a better life. Hence, this Russian-born prodigy turned Austrian resident embraced his fortune and translated his strife into power by committing himself to the world of combat sports.

Naurdiev began his martial training with wrestling before transitioning into mixed martial arts (MMA) during his teenage years. Unlike seasoned contenders, he started his professional journey without trainers or sparring partners in the initial phase. The unfazed Naurdiev welcomed every challenge with open arms, tirelessly accepting every fight offered for the invaluable experience it would bring. Despite his Russian roots, he is proud of his Austrian citizenship, publicly acknowledging his gratitude towards Austria for providing him with endless opportunities and a safer environment.

Before making his mark in international promotions such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB), Naurdiev battled in several fights under the banner of European promotions, most notably the Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA). A crude offering of both talent and potential, he impressively accumulated a record of 17 wins with only two losses prior to his big move to the UFC.

The professional debut of Naurdiev in the UFC occurred at UFC Fight Night: Błachowicz vs. Santos on February 23, 2019. Displaying his resilience, he replaced an injured fighter, Ramazan Emeev, and faced Michel Prazeres. His debut was a resounding success as he clenched a victory through a unanimous decision. This triumph was succeeded by a series of alternating wins and losses against various MMA fighters including Chance Rencountre, Siyar Bahadurzada, and Sean Brady.

After completing his four fights contract with the UFC, he parted ways with the organization due to their lack of interest in renewing his contract. He embarked on a new journey by signing with Elite MMA Championship (EMC) on August 24, 2020. Despite a few impediments, including an injury which forced him to withdraw from a significant bout, and the entire event being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Naurdiev persevered.

In the new chapter of his career, his potential and aggressive skills in the combat arena earned him a multi-fight contract with Brave Combat Federation in February 2021. Unfortunately, he suffered a loss against Jarrah Al-Silawi during the BRAVE CF Super Welterweight Championship due to a leg injury from a kick. However, this setback only furthered his determination, leading to decisive victories against Olli Santalahti and Bekten Zheenbekov.

Nevertheless, the fluctuating fortune of his career continued, evidenced by his loss against Marcin Bandel for the vacant Brave CF Super Welterweight Championship. Soon after enduring another defeat against Vadim Kutsy, Naurdiev took the bold decision to move up to the Middleweight division. Here, he faced and successfully defeated Tahar Hadbi with a guillotine choke.

Now, Ismail Naurdiev, popularly known as “The Austrian Wonderboy” due to his unique and flashy spinning kicks, is poised to step back into the UFC and face Bruno Silva in October 2024. This transition marks yet another leap of faith for Naurdiev, whose unique blend of Russian-born humility and hard-earned Austrian gratitude, combined with his fiery passion for martial arts, has made him a compelling figure in the world of mixed martial arts.
