The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is globally recognized for its assemblage of world-class martial art fighters from around the world. As of July 21, 2023, the UFC roster encompasses fighters from a staggering 73 different countries. However, this catalog records more than just the athletes’ national origins. It also provides updates on recent signings and departures, along with scheduling information and event outcomes. Fighter statuses are regularly adjusted in response to contract termination, retirement news, or physical removal from the rosters.
A considerable number of fighters within the roster have either penned agreements with the UFC but are still waiting to make their first appearances, or are recently returned from announced retirement. There are also those who are still to make their return to the UFC. Further, the index also discloses those who have been suspended, either because of violations laid down by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) or the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), or due to poor conduct both during fights and at event venues. By May 16, 2019, 76 UFC fighters had been sanctioned by USADA since the commencement of the UFC USADA testing program.
Emblematic flags associated with fighters in these lists adhere to the official telecasts from the UFC, though they may not accurately reflect the full citizenship backgrounds of the fighters. The most recent update was recorded on January 28, 2024, subsequent to UFC 297.
Rankings among UFC fighters are administrated by a panel comprised of members from the MMA media. This committee elects the top active fighters based on weight class and pound-for-pound capabilities. Interestingly, fighters can accrue ranks within various divisions concurrently, provided they have competed within those classes. Champions and interim champions are privileged with the top ranks in their respective divisions, though only champions can earn votes in the pound-for-pound ranking.
These rankings are regularly recorded and updated in line with information available on the UFC’s official website, with the most recent update coming on January 23, 2024, following UFC 297. Presently, the UFC recognizes nine distinct weight classes. As of information updated on December 16, 2023, following UFC 296, the list of champions within the divisions includes Amanda Lemos, who defeated her opponent at UFC 292, and Valentina Shevchenko who ended her match at UFC Fight Night 227 in a draw.
Prominent fighters like Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski also boast impressive records, registering key victories at events including UFC 251, 266, 273, 276, and 290 for Holloway, and at UFC 284 and 294 for Volkanovski. This testament to their toughness and enduring spirit reflects the ethos of the UFC: competition at the highest level, respect for the discipline, and dedication to the craft of mixed martial arts.
