Amir Albazi Bio
Amir Albazi is an Iraqi mixed martial artist competing in the UFC flyweight division. Born in Baghdad, he has represented Iraq during his UFC career and is listed by the promotion as an active athlete. Albazi made his UFC debut on July 18, 2020, submitting Malcolm Gordon by triangle choke.
Albazi is known for an aggressive, jiu-jitsu-centered style, with submission grappling as a major part of his approach. The UFC lists Atreus MMA as his training gym and identifies jiu-jitsu as his fighting style. His notable UFC milestones include victories over Zhalgas Zhumagulov, Francisco Figueiredo, Alessandro Costa and Kai Kara-France, followed by a five-round bout with Brandon Moreno in November 2024.
Outside MMA competition, Albazi told the UFC that he graduated from the University of Roehampton with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science. He has also described winning titles in Swedish, Scandinavian, European, Asian and world jiu-jitsu competition, including representing Iraq in international jiu-jitsu competition.
