Wyatt Teller's Biography

Wyatt Teller, born on November 21, 1994, has made quite a name for himself in the National Football League (NFL) as a professional football guard for the Cleveland Browns. This is just one part of his journey – his illustrious career started back in his college years when he played football at Virginia Tech.

After gaining success in high school football, Teller made the decision to commit to Virginia Tech over 16 other prospective Football Bowl Subdivision programs. This decision set him on a path to wide acclaim in his senior season. Teller put up such a remarkable performance that he was bestowed the honor of being named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) first team. Additionally, he was the runner up for the prestigious ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy, a testament to his undeniable prowess on the football field. His senior season was further marked by an invitation to participate in the 2018 Senior Bowl.

Following his successful senior season, Teller was granted an invitation to the NFL Combine in 2018. His exceptional abilities were on full display as he recorded the second-best broad jump among all the offensive linemen present. Furthermore, he generated impressive results on the bench press, securing a spot among the top five athletes in terms of reps. He also showcased his agility and speed by clocking the fifth fastest three-cone drill time.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Teller in the fifth round, granting him the 166th overall pick. The Bills had acquired this pick as a result of a trade that involved Marcell Dareus’ move to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Starting his rookie season as a backup guard, Teller wasted no time proving his worth as he worked his way up to the position of the starting left guard.

By the end of Week 10, Teller had established himself as a permanent asset in the starting lineup, going on to be a stronghold in the final seven games. His career took another substantial leap on August 29, 2019. The Bills, along with a 2021 seventh-round pick, decided to trade Teller to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for 2020 fifth and sixth-round picks.

After becoming a Brown, Teller worked his way up once again, becoming a starting line-up member during Week 9. Following that, he continuously started for the remainder of the season. His excellent performance was instrumental in leading Cleveland’s running game, earning him recognition from NFL.com writer Nick Shook as an MVP candidate come week five of the 2020 NFL season.

Unfortunately, Teller’s season was briefly halted when he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on December 8, 2020. Thankfully, he was cleared and activated five days later, on December 13. Despite the setback, Teller had performed sufficiently well to be named to the 2020 All-Pro Team. Joining him in this recognition were teammates Myles Garrett, Jack Conklin, and Joel Bitonio.

In November 2021, Teller received a resounding confirmation of his value to the team. The Browns chose to extend his contract through the 2025 season, committing to a four-year, $56.8 million contract, securing the player’s future in the league. This agreement not only exemplifies Teller’s remarkable journey from college football to NFL player but also underscores his substantial contributions to his team’s successes.
