Tyreek Maddox-Williams, born on October 28, 1997, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has made a name for himself as a dedicated, high-performing professional football linebacker. Raised in Philadelphia and educated at Timber Creek Regional High School in New Jersey, Maddox-Williams showcased early signs of his football prowess. Within his time at Timber Creek, he played football diligently, making significant achievements including a first-team all-division selection. His skill brought him the opportunity to total 74 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack during his senior year.

Rivals.com recognized Maddox-Williams as a three-star recruit and even carried him as the 29th-best player in his state. This prompted him to commit to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, thus reneging his commitment from the Buffalo Bulls to start his college football journey.

At Rutgers University in 2016, he was a true freshman who played in a succession of 11 games, six of which he started. His excellence in performance was recognized and he was named to ESPN’s Freshman All-Big Ten Conference team. He recorded an impressive 47 tackles that year and caught the eyes of many in the football fraternity.

Unfortunately, an ACL injury resulted in Maddox-Williams missing the entirety of the 2017 season. Despite this setback, he roared back in 2018 and played all 12 scheduled games, ultimately posting 48 solid tackles.

In 2019, his teammates acknowledged his leadership by making him team captain. As captain, Maddox-Williams demonstrated his prowess in all 12 games, starting in eight and tallying 45 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, and 1.5 sacks. The 2020 season saw him play in nine games, start one game, achieving 39 tackles, and three pass breakups.

Off the field, Maddox-Williams exhibited equal diligence in academia. He secured a spot as a five-time Academic All-Big Ten selection—a reflection of his academic prowess and commitment. After his college career capped with the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl invite, it was clear that Maddox-Williams was on course for a prosperous professional football career.

Although missed in the 2022 NFL draft, Maddox-Williams leveraged his exceptional skills and was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Although released at the final roster cuts, his skills proved indispensable and was re-signed to the practice squad. He secured a reserve/future contract in January 2023 but got waived later in July 2023.

Taking advantage of opportunities, Maddox-Williams was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on August 19, 2023. He only had a preseason appearance, which was filled with notable performance metrics: seven tackles, two pass breakups, a tackle for loss, and an interception, which he brightly returned 42 yards against the Indianapolis Colts. Although released at the final roster cuts, he left a lasting impression.

The Arizona Cardinals recognized Maddox-Williams’s talent and added him to their practice squad on September 13, 2023, ultimately promoting him to the active roster in December the same year. He played in three games in what turned out to be a very satisfying season.

Despite showing a promising future, Maddox-Williams was surprisingly waived by the Cardinals on August 27, 2024. To date, though a free agent, the resilience and talents of Maddox-Williams have proven that he has a lot to offer and is destined for greatness in professional football.
