Sam Tecklenburg has etched his name in the annals of American football, beginning his journey to mastery on the playing field on January 31, 1997. Today, he earns his laurels as the center for the San Antonio Brahmas, a team in the United Football League (UFL), showcasing his sterling skills and dogged dedication to the sport. Yet, his journey isn’t a straightforward tale; it’s studded with struggles, triumphs, and learning from every corner.

Raised with an inherent passion for the pigskin, Tecklenburg’s memorable collegiate years were spent at Baylor University where he honed his skills and made his mark in college football. As the years rolled on, he kept his eyes set on the professional leagues, transforming himself into the player the sport needed.

On April 27, 2020, the resilient and promising young athlete bagged his first professional contract with the Carolina Panthers. This National Football League (NFL) team saw the talent he brought to the table, signing him as an undrafted free agent. The Panthers, under the aegis of Head Coach Matt Rhule, with whom Tecklenburg had previously worked at Baylor, provided him with the platform to explore the professional side of football.

This journey, however, was not without hurdles. Tecklenburg fell under the roster cuts on September 5. Nevertheless, seeing his potential and dedication, the Panthers swiftly re-signed him to their practice squad the following day. Barely a month later, on October 20, 2020, Tecklenburg was promoted to the Panthers’ active roster, showcasing his commitment and resilience. However, it was short-lived as a subsequent waive came on November 5. This did not dampen his spirit, and a mere two days later, he found himself re-signed to the practice squad. As 2021 dawned, Tecklenburg signed a reserve/future contract with the Carolina Panthers on January 4, marking his determination to rise in the ranks.

The succeeding year saw him going through a similar ordeal. The Panthers waived him on August 31, 2021, only to re-sign him to the practice squad the next day. A week later, Tecklenburg was back on the Panthers’ active roster, reinstating his position on September 7, 2021. A year later in 2022, he faced the same challenge — waived on August 30, only to be re-signed to the practice squad and later promoted to the active roster on January 7, 2023.

Sustaining yet another waive by the Panthers on August 29, 2023, the following year brought a new opportunity knocking on his door. On February 28, 2024, the San Antonio Brahmas, an admired squad of the United Football League (UFL), welcomed Tecklenburg into their team. He graciously accepted the offer and diligently worked his way upwards, earning a re-sign with the same team on September 3, 2024.
