Richard LeCounte III's Biography

Richard Lee LeCounte III was born on the 11th of September, 1998. He is an accomplished American football safety who is currently registered as a free agent. His prowess in football is rooted in his early years right from high school and was cultivated on the college football field at Georgia.

Tracing his journey, LeCounte attended the Liberty County High School located in Hinesville, Georgia. Even as a senior, his skills in the game were undeniable. His exemplary performances led him to be named the 2016 Savannah Morning News Male Athlete of the Year. As well, he received an honorable title of The Football Defensive Player of The Year. Moreover, his skills distinguished him from his peers leading to his selection in the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

His reputation extended beyond high school affirmative of his five-star recruit status. LeCounte exhibited utmost dedication for football and presented a promising future in the sport. This stirred the interest of the University of Georgia where he committed to play college football. In a historic mark in his career progress, LeCounte was notably the first recruit to commit to Coach Kirby Smart who had just assumed the position of head coach at his alma mater.

LeCounte’s freshman year at Georgia in 2017 saw him participate in 10 games earning himself 15 tackles. In his sophomore year, 2018, he escalated his game by starting in 13 out of 14 games. More impressively, he led the team with a whopping 74 tackles and one interception. Approaching his junior year in the year 2019, he started all the games amassing 61 tackles and four interceptions. Instead of entering the 2020 NFL draft, he decided to return to Georgia for his senior year in 2020.

LeCounte’s professional football career took flight when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns as the 169th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft conducted on May 1, 2021. Barely two weeks later, he secured a four-year rookie contract. However, on the 3rd of October in 2022, his contract was waived by the Cleveland Browns. Despite this, he was re-signed to the practice squad. Unfortunately, he was released on October 19.

Still representing resilience and determination, LeCounte signed with the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams on December 14, 2022. He further advanced to sign a reserve/futures contract on January 9, 2023. But in an unforeseen turn of events, he was waived on August 14, 2023.

On the 22nd of August in 2023, LeCounte took another stride in his career by penning a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, within a week, on August 29, 2023, he was waived and re-signed to the practice squad. After playing for several months, he secured a reserve/future contract on January 23, 2024. Unfortunately, his journey with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was cut short when he was waived on April 24, 2024.
