Mason Tipton's Biography

Born on September 27, 2000, Mason Tipton stands as a testament to dedication, talent, and resilience. Today, he is known as an American professional football wide receiver for the prestigious National Football League team, the New Orleans Saints. However, his journey from an athletic teenager in Akron, Ohio to becoming a respected professional football player in the NFL is marked with trials, triumphs, and tenacity.

Tipton’s love affair with football began during his early years in Akron, Ohio. Raised in a sports-loving family where his father, Lawrence Tipton, was a former football player for Akron, Mason’s passion for football was nurtured from his childhood. Besides this, he also harboured profound affection for baseball during his academic tenure at Archbishop Hoban High School. The young, determined athlete swiftly emerged as a bona fide high school sports phenom, garnering fame as a three-time state football champion. His immense potential soon caught the eye of talent scouts and he received a flurry of football scholarship offers. In a defining moment of his career, he refused an offer from Kent State in favor of Yale and committed to play college football there.

Arguably, Tipton’s years at Yale, from 2019 to 2023, not only helped polish his skills but also laid the foundation of his forthcoming professional career. During those beneficial years, Tipton delivered exemplary performances, making 33 starts in the 36 games he played. Known for his work ethic and performance under pressure, he was named a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection in the 2023 season. His records at Yale are remarkable; finishing third in school history for career receiving touchdowns with 19, fifth in career receptions amounting to 132, and sixth in career receiving yards reaching 2,067.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, Tipton remained undrafted during the 2024 NFL draft. But fortune quickly turned in his favor; he was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent, despite being an avid Cleveland Browns fan. During this period, the Memphis Showboats from the UFL also extended a draft offer to Tipton, which he graciously declined in pursuit of his commitment to the Saints.

During the Saints’ intensive training camp, Tipton’s natural talent shone brightly. Head coach Dennis Allen fondly compared Tipton’s skill set and potential to former undrafted free agent and All-Pro player, Chris Harris Jr., whom Allen coached during his tenure as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos in 2011. Tipton’s impressive performances ensured his survival through the Saints’ stringent roster cuts, cementing his place in the team’s initial 53-man roster.

His parents, Angela and Lawrence Tipton, encountered legal issues and were convicted on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, leading to his father’s two-year-long incarceration and his mother’s four months on house arrest followed by probation.
