Marquis Haynes Sr.'s Biography

Marquis Jacori Haynes Sr., known in professional circles as Marquis Haynes, was born on December 16, 1993. Currently, he holds a significant position in American professional football as a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, one of the top ranking teams in the National Football League (NFL). He has cemented his place in professional football with his significant contributions to the team, making him a prominent figure in the American football landscape.

Haynes’ early career in college football was equally remarkable. He played for the Ole Miss Rebels, the team representing the University of Mississippi. But his journey towards football supremacy started even before college. He spent his high school years at University Christian School in Jacksonville, Florida. After graduating, Haynes enrolled in the Fork Union Military Academy, where he spent a year honing his skills.

Various universities noticed his potential and athletic prowess. Both the University of Louisville and the University of North Carolina extended offers for him to join their collegiate football teams. Ultimately, however, Haynes chose to play for the University of Mississippi, the institution better known as Ole Miss.

As a newcomer to Ole Miss’s football team in 2014, Haynes proved his mettle by playing in all 13 games with four starts. His performance was exceptional, breaking school records with his 31 tackles and 7.5 sacks in his freshman year alone. This accomplishment acted as an early testament to his potential and the remarkable career that lay ahead.

The following year, as a sophomore, Haynes raised the bar significantly. He not only started 12 of the 13 games, but ended the season with 43 tackles and 10 sacks. For these achievements, he was awarded second-team All-Southeastern Conference—an accolade that affirmed his growing reputation in the sport.

His successful collegiate career paved the way for his professional journey when he was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round, securing the 136th spot in the 2018 NFL draft. But his journey wasn’t always smooth. On November 27, 2021, Haynes, along with three other players, was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list. This, however, didn’t hinder his career growth.

On March 15, 2022, he extended his contract with the Panthers for another two years. The season brought more rewards. During Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints, Haynes scored his first professional career touchdown in the first quarter. This ensued from Frankie Luvu causing an Alvin Kamara fumble, and Haynes seizing the opportunity to return the ball 44 yards for the score.

By September 4, 2023, Haynes faced a minor setback—he was placed on injured reserve. But he returned stronger and was back in action by November 9 of the same year. In an unexpected turn of events, on August 6, 2024, Haynes briefly signed with the Arizona Cardinals, but found himself waived after three days.

However, true to his never-say-die attitude, Haynes found his way back into the game. On October 4, 2024, he was signed onto the practice squad for the Carolina Panthers. Less than ten days later, he was promoted to the active roster. Despite the adversities, Haynes continues to prove himself, leaving a remarkable imprint in the world of American football.
