Jordan Elliott: The Journey of a Pro-Football Defensive Tackle

Born November 23, 1997, Jordan Elliott has made a name for himself in American professional football, putting his gifts and hard work to the test in the National Football League (NFL). Currently a defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, his journey to this point was shaped by impactful moments of drive, determination, and resilience.

Elliott’s journey began in Houston, Texas, where he attended Westside High School and made his first significant strides on the football field. His senior year saw him make notable contributions to the team, as his performance won him a spot at the prestigious 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This was a time of hard-fought games, nervous anticipation, and ultimately, triumph that fueled his burgeoning football career even more.

After demonstrating significant potential at Westside, Elliott saw many doors open for him, but it was the University of Texas at Austin that managed to secure his talents. Taking a significant stride in his path toward football greatness, he committed to play college football for them, where he spent a single season. This season proved important for his development as he got a taste of high-stakes football, playing six games and recording eight tackles.

After that inaugural college football season, Elliott felt he needed a new environment that could better serve his football ambitions. Consequently, prior to the 2017 season, he transferred to the University of Missouri. There, he was faced with the harsh realities of NCAA transfer rules, which forced him to sit out the 2017 season.

While missing a season seemed daunting, Elliott used this time and space to refine his skills off-field. When he returned to the gridiron in 2018, he displayed a newfound drive and ability that helped him make 68 tackles and 5.5 sacks over two seasons. Once those seasons came to a close, with his body hardened and his mind sharper in terms of strategy and game awareness, Elliott felt prepared to face a new challenge – the NFL.

Entering the 2020 NFL Draft, and following a strenuous evaluation process, Elliott was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round. He was the 88th overall pick, a moment that marked the realization of his dream to play in the NFL. On July 2, 2020, a month after the draft, he signed his rookie contract with the Browns.

Elliott fit right into the Browns’ setup. However, though he served in a rotational role for the first two years, his performance and zeal for the game did not go unnoticed. Eventually, he earned a place as a full-time starter in 2022 and 2023, demonstrating significant improvement and helping his team make strides in the league.

On March 14, 2024, following a successful tenure with the Browns, Elliott decided to embark on a new journey. He signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Today, his role as a defensive tackle remains a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and commitment to the sport of football.
