Joe Haeg's Biography

Born on March 11, 1993, Joe Haeg has made an illustrious career as a former professional American football offensive tackle. Before his retirement in 2023 after the season, he played in the National Football League (NFL) and represented multiple reputable teams during his career, including the Indianapolis Colts, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Cleveland Browns, and the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers. His journey to the NFL began on the field of North Dakota State, where he played college football, impressing scouts and eventually being drafted in the fifth round of the NFL draft in 2016.

Joe Haeg was selected as the 155th overall player in the 2016 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. This was the first stepping stone in his professional football career. Just a few days later on May 5, he was signed by the Colts to his rookie contract. Not many rookies get to start in their first season, but Joe got a chance to start in 14 out of the 15 games he played in 2016.

In the following year, 2017, Haeg continued to make an impact when he got to play all 16 games as a part of the regular season. He was trusted with the starting position in 15 of these games, playing at both the right guard and right tackle positions.

The 2018 season started on a promising note for Haeg. He started the first two games at right tackle and the third at left tackle. Yet, his journey was impeded by an ankle injury in Week 3 that sidelined him for the greater part of the season. He was placed on the injured reserve list on September 28, 2018, and was not activated until December 1, 2018. Upon his return, Haeg started two matches as a right guard, replacing the injured Mark Glowinski.

In March 2020, Haeg embarked on a new chapter of his career with his signing of a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During the 2020 season, Haeg showcased his versatility in 12 games, starting three. One of the memorable moments of his career with the Buccaneers was during Super Bowl LV when he was targeted on a trick play. While it could’ve resulted in a touchdown reception, it ended up as an incomplete pass. Nonetheless, the Buccaneers won the game with a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2021, Haeg signed a two-year contract with another NFL giant, the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, following an unfortunate turn of events, he was released by the team on August 30, 2022.

Unfazed by his release, Haeg continued to pursue his passion for football and was quickly picked up by the Cleveland Browns on September 4, 2022. Joe’s career with the Browns, however, was off to a challenging start as he faced another health setback. He was placed on the injured reserve list due to a concussion on October 29. On June 5, 2023, Joe was released by the Browns, sparking an end to his rich career in professional football.

Following this, Joe Haeg made the decision to retire after the 2023 season, concluding a remarkable career in the National Football League.
