As a child, Kinlaw immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States with his mother and two siblings. They found themselves in a precarious situation, living homeless in Washington, D.C. He pursued his education at Goose Creek High School in South Carolina and tried his hand at football, where he started revealing an innate talent for the sport.

In 2023, he played all 17 games, contributing 3.5 sacks, 25 total tackles, and three passes defended. On March 14, 2024, Kinlaw began a new chapter in his career by signing a one-year contract with the New York Jets.
