Born on May 18, 2000, Gregory Newsome II carved a name for himself within the National Football League (NFL) as an accomplished American professional player. As a football cornerback, he is currently commanding the field for the Cleveland Browns, executing essential moves and strategies that have significantly contributed to the team’s success.

Newsome’s early years were highlighted by his unique athletic abilities and fierce dedication. He embarked on his educational journey at Glenbard North High School, located in Carol Stream, Illinois. Here, he cultivated a passion not only for academia but also for athletics. He showcased his potential through several sports activities, particularly football. Seeing a high-caliber institution that could help harness his sporting abilities, he decided to transfer to IMG Academy, a recognized sports training base in Bradenton, Florida, for his senior year.

Post high school, Newsome demonstrated his commitment to both education and sports by accepting an admission offer from Northwestern University. The university’s well-renowned football program paved the way for Newsome’s collegiate football involvement. Over three years at Northwestern, he became an integral part of the Northwestern Wildcats, recording 71 tackles and a remarkable interception. Starting 18 games during his term, he helped steer the Wildcats to two noteworthy Big Ten title games.

In 2020, as a junior in college, Newsome received an extraordinary honor – he was named an All-American by The Athletic. Following his prosperous season, Newsome made the pivotal decision to enter the 2021 NFL draft, setting the stage for a series of events that would change his life.

On April 29, 2021, the Cleveland Browns set their sights on Newsome and selected him in the first round with the 26th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Newsome’s selection consisted of a significant milestone for Northwestern, marking the first time the university boasted two first-round picks in an NFL draft, with the second pick being Rashawn Slater, who was taken 13th overall.
