Christian Coral Cleveland Covington, a proficient Canadian Football defensive end was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on the 16th of October, 1993. He is a prominent figure especially in the Canadian football fraternity, currently playing for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. Covington began his football journey in high school while studying in Vancouver College. He played a vital role in his team’s triumph in the Provincial Championship during his senior year. His role in the team was marked by 83 tackles, 15 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries, one interception, 3 forced fumbles and 2 defensive touchdowns in 14 games. Motivated by a scholarship from the esteemed Rice University, he joined college to continue his passion for the sport. He featured in 12 games of his freshman year as a defensive tackle, earning 43 tackles, five sacks, 20 quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and one forced fumble. His role in the team was soon elevated, becoming the starting nose tackle during his sophomore year in 2013. Covington played a key role in Rice University clinching its first football conference title in 56 years. Despite suffering a right thumb injury that necessitated a cast for five games. He managed to score 59 tackles, four sacks and even scored one blocked field goal.

In 2014 Covington’s junior year, an unfortunate injury in the eighth game led to dislocation of his kneecap, thereby ending his season prematurely. Born performer as he was, Covington put up an impressive performance earlier in the season. This included making 5 tackles, a tally of 1.5 sacks, and one pass breakup just against North Texas. He ended his college career having appeared in 33 games, attaining 119 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 4 pass break ups and 2 blocked kicks.

Christian ventured into professional football in 2015 after being handpicked by Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL draft. At the same time, he was also picked by BC Lions in the CFL draft. Consequently, Covington appeared in 15 games in his rookie year as a backup defensive end. By the end of 2017 season, he had made 16 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in seven games. His tenure in the Texas ended abruptly following an injury that saw him land on the injured reserve list on October 31.

The following year, Covington played two out of 12 games, which saw him register 15 tackles with the 3.5 of them being sacks, eight quarterback pressures among others. This was before he signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys in March 2019. Christian then signed a one-year deal worth $1.75 million with the Denver Broncos in April 2020. Shortly after, he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, marking a goodbye to Denver.

Christian later signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in May 2021, where he played 16 games, scored 52 tackles and forced one fumble. He returned to the Chargers the following year before being released in August 2022. Covington was quickly scooped by the Detroit Lions in May 2023, before being dropped in August the same year. After his contract with the Chargers expired at the end of 2023, he decided to seek pastures anew and consequently signed with the Lions.
