Born on October 19, 1998, Chris Rumph II is an accomplished American professional football player. He has established a name for himself as a high-performing linebacker for the esteemed Los Angeles Chargers, earning widespread respect in the fiercely competitive National Football League (NFL). His endeavor into football excellence began during his college years at Duke, where he nurtured the burgeoning spark of his talent and rapidly developed his skills on the pitch. His impressive performance at Duke culminated in a well-deserved selection by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round of the celebrated 2021 NFL draft.

The direction of Rumph’s life was strongly shaped during his early years, especially due to his father’s coaching career. As a result of the peripatetic tendencies attached to his father’s occupation, Rumph had to adapt to frequent relocations, which, in turn, cultivated resilience and adaptability in him. One of these moves brought him to the sunny city of Gainesville, Florida. Whilst there, he transferred to Buchholz High School before his sophomore year began.

This was a crucial move for Rumph, as it was here that he began showing the first signs of future greatness. By the time he was a senior, he had already bagged the first-team All-State title, in addition to being recognized as the Big School Player of the Year by The Gainesville Sun. His outstanding prowess was reflected in the impressive record of 105 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, two blocked punts, one interception, and two fumble recoveries under his belt. As his high school career came to an end, Rumph received multiple offers from reputable colleges, including UCF, Vanderbilt, and Appalachian State. Among these tempting offers, he chose to commit to playing college football at Duke University.

As a true freshman at Duke, Rumph decided to redshirt. This decision, which allowed him to focus intensively on his training, was rewarded with outstanding results in his first season. As a redshirt freshman, he touted an impressive record of 25 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, one fumble recovery, and one pass broken up. His remarkable performance did not go unnoticed, leading to his well-deserved recognition as a freshman All-American by USA Today. Subsequently, he continued to perform at his peak, posting 47 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three pass breakups, 11 quarterback hurries, and one forced fumble during his stay at Duke. His standout performance secured his spots on the third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), as well as First-team All-America by Pro Football Focus, and Second-team All-America by Sports Illustrated.

Following his prosperous college football career, Rumph was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft, as the 118th pick overall. Rumph officially began his professional journey on May 18, 2021, signing a four-year rookie contract with the Chargers. However, his remarkable journey was not without challenges. In November 2023, he was placed on injured reserve after fracturing his foot. The next year, in August, Rumph was again placed on injured reserve, abruptly ending his season.
