Chase Hansen's Biography

Chase Hansen was born on May 20, 1993, in the United States. With an insatiable love for football games, he made his passion his life’s work and bravely embarked on a journey in the American National Football League (NFL) as a linebacker. However, as of the offseason following the 2022 NFL season, Hansen is presently a free agent, awaiting the next step in his professional football career.

As a young adult setting foot in college football at the University of Utah, Hansen displayed impressive potential and skill. He was required to redshirt his true freshman season, an experience and break that only fueled his dedication and passion for the sport. A brief departure from the team after his freshman year presented Hansen with an opportunity to embark on a Latter-day Saints (LDS) Mission to Brisbane, Australia. His return in 2015 ushered in a refreshingly dynamic phase in his football career, where he skillfully played as both a quarterback and safety — two crucial positions in football — as a redshirt freshman. By his redshirt sophomore year, Hansen had shown considerable prowess as a safety, eventually transitioning to the role of a linebacker by the close of his redshirt junior year.

The senior year marked a productive period for Hansen, establishing him as a formidable force in the game. During this time, he made an impressive record of 114 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, and 5.0 sacks, along with two interceptions. His proficiency did not go unnoticed as he was awarded the prestigious title of first-team All-Pac-12. Further recognition came from the Football Writers Association of America and Sporting News that named him a second-team All-American.

As his college career came to an end, Chase Hansen’s professional journey began to unfold. He was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2019. However, a slight hiccup occurred when he was waived on May 10, only to be re-signed four days later. His rookie season was overshadowed by a back injury, leading him to be placed on the Non-football Injury list in July 2019.

Regaining his footing in 2020, he made it to the Saints’ initial roster out of training camp. The season opener on September 13, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, witnessed his NFL debut — a milestone for any professional player. Unfortunately, Hansen was placed on injured reserve on October 3, 2020. Activated again on November 13, he experienced another brief setback as he was waived on November 24. However, demonstrating his resilience and perseverance, Hansen came back, signing to the practice squad just two days later. His talents shone through again as he was elevated to the active roster in January 2021, during the team’s week 17 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Hansen’s journey with the Saints was marked by cycles of being elevated to the active roster and returning to the practice squad. January of 2021 saw him playing the wild card and divisional playoff games against the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following each game, he was returned to the practice squad.

The year 2021 also saw Hansen securing a reserve/futures contract with the Saints. However, due to an injury, he was placed on the injured reserve on September 18. He was then released from the squad, only to return to the practice squad later in November.

In the year 2022, Hansen was brought back by the New Orleans Saints on August 8. Despite being waived later in the month, he promptly signed to the practice squad. He was later promoted to the active roster but not without another journey to the injured reserve in November. However, displaying his remarkable resilience, he returned from injured reserve on December 14.

Despite his arduous journey marked by injuries and challenges, Hansen never lost his resilience. In the end, though, he did not receive a qualifying offer from the Saints following the season and became a free agent on March 15, 2023. His football journey is a testament to his dedication, sealing his place in the annals of American football. His career trajectory, albeit filled with ups and downs, serves as an inspiration to others, revealing the true character of a sportsman who doesn’t shy away from the face of adversity.
