Austin Corbett's Biography

Austin Corbett, born on September 5, 1995, is most popularly known as a proficient guard in American professional football. Born to take over the football field, he currently leads a cherished career with the Carolina Panthers, a team of the National Football League (NFL). Austin’s journey into the world of professional football is as interesting as his performances on the field.

As a teenager, Austin’s first tryst with football began in his high school years. He studied at Reed High School, located in Sparks, Nevada, where he demonstrated his budding talent for football. However, his football journey took an unprecedented turn when he decided to walk on at his college level.

Austin chose University of Nevada, Reno for his further studies, and it was here that he pursued college football. By the time the 2017 season was on the horizon, it was evident that Austin had grown significantly as a football player. He had more experience than any other offensive lineman in his team, the Wolf Pack. Moreover, not only was he named the Basalite Big Blocker after the season, but he also had the privilege of being named a team captain – a testimony to his leadership skills.

During his tenure at the university, primarily, he was a four-year starter at the position of the left tackle. He had taken over this prominent role from Joel Bitonio, who later became his teammate in the Cleveland Browns. As a redshirt freshman, succeeding Bitonio as Nevada’s starting left tackle was a significant milestone in Austin’s career.

Over the course of his senior season, Austin’s abilities as a football player were recognized more unanimously. He had evolved into a player worthy of awards and nominations, being named a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy in 2017. His expertise also earned him an invitation to the prestigious 2018 Senior Bowl.

Austin’s professional career kicked off when the Cleveland Browns selected him in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NFL draft. On May 6, Austin formalized his association with the Browns, signing a four-year deal priced at $7.568 million. The contracting period was marked by a rewarding signing bonus of $3.584 million.

His stint with the Browns was relatively brief as they traded Austin to the Los Angeles Rams on October 15, 2019. This deal involved the Rams’ fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. After the trade, Austin started in 7 of the 8 games in the 2019 season with the Rams. His career took a high jump of great satisfaction in the 2021-22 season when he started all 17 regular games. He continued this winning streak in the playoff games as well, emerging as a reliable player, leading the Rams to win Super Bowl LVI in a thrilling match against the Cincinnati Bengals. Notably, this game was at home, and the Rams won with a nailbiting score of 23-20.

In a significant shift in his career trajectory, Austin signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers on March 16, 2022. This association, in every sense, was a lucrative one, with a contract worth $26.25 million spread over three years. Unfortunately, the season finale against the New Orleans Saints marked the onset of a challenging phase in Austin’s career when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

As a result of this injury, Austin was placed on the team’s reserve/physically unable to perform list on August 29, 2023. This unfortunate development required him to miss the first four games of the 2023 season. However, his fortitude saw him bounce back, and Austin was activated from the list on October 24. However, his return was short-lived as he endured a season-ending knee injury in Week 11 and was switched to injured reserved on November 22, ending his participation for the season.

Besides his distinguished football career, Austin is also known for his roots. A proud citizen of the Walker River Paiute Tribe, he belongs to a respected tribe of Northern Paiute people, recognized federally.
