Alex Taylor's Biography
Armani Alexander Taylor-Prioleau, more commonly known simply as Armani Taylor, was born on April 29, 1997. Born into a football lineage, he carries forward the legacy of his father, a former college football player for Presbyterian, and his uncles. One of them, Pierson Prioleau, had a prestigious NFL career as a defensive back, while the other, Joe Hamilton, excelled at Georgia Tech.
Even though Taylor hails from a family steeped in football tradition, his football career didn’t take off until his junior year in high school. Having spent his early years in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Taylor spent the majority of his time in Berkeley Senior High School honing his skills on the basketball court. He didn’t make the switch to the gridiron until his junior year of high school.
When it was time to pick a college, Taylor chose Appalachian State. However, his passion for basketball lured him away from the football field during his freshman year, leading him to redshirt the season. Eventually, his desire to compete on the basketball court brought him to South Carolina State University, where he spent two seasons as a reserve on the basketball team.
Eventually, Taylor found his way back to the football field, this time making his presence felt as a formidable offensive tackle for the South Carolina State Bulldogs. His skills didn’t go unnoticed, and he secured a third-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) selection as a redshirt junior, advancing to first-team All-MEAC as a redshirt senior.
Despite an impressive college career, Taylor went undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft. Nevertheless, the Cleveland Browns recognized his potential and signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2020. It was in Cleveland where Taylor faced his fair share of challenges, battling injuries and frequently oscillating between the practice squad and the active roster.
Taylor’s journey with the Browns didn’t end until August 2023, when he was waived with an injury designation. In September of the same year, Taylor was signed to the Chicago Bears’ practice squad, but that association ended a month later.
Taylor then made his way back to Cleveland, signing with the Browns’ practice squad on October 12, 2021. After signing with the Browns, his team affiliation frequently changed over the next few years, involving teams such as the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders.
In 2023, Taylor ventured into the United States Football League (USFL) as a member of the Birmingham Stallions. The year 2024 brought him a highlight of his football career when the Stallions clinched the UFL Championship.
After his contract with the Stallions was terminated, Taylor joined the Washington Commanders on August 7, 2024. However, his tenure with the Commanders was also marked by injury. Despite these setbacks, Taylor’s tenacity and resilience have marked his ongoing journey in the world of professional football. His story doesn’t end here; in a career characterized by constant movement and adaptation, one can only wait for Taylor’s next big play.
