Victor Oladipo

Born on May 4, 1992, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Kehinde Babatunde Victor Oladipo, popularly known as Victor Oladipo, is an American former professional basketball player turned ESPN sports analyst. Oladipo has crafted a reputation for his exemplary skills in basketball that spanned a decade. He spent his youth in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, born to Nigerian parents who immigrated to the United States in 1985.

As a child, Victor played CYO basketball at St. Jerome Academy in Hyattsville, Maryland, before advancing to DeMatha High School, where he played senior high school basketball. Notably, he led DeMatha to a 32–4 record during his senior year and held the titles of Washington Post 2010 All-Met First Team and First Team All-WCAC. His impressive record in high school earned him a place at Indiana University Bloomington, rejecting offers from other esteemed institutions.

At Indiana University, Victor Oladipo left a significant mark. He was part of the Hoosiers’ basketball team that he led to conquer the 2012-13 season. That year, Victor received several accolades, including the Sporting News Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year and the Co-NABC Defensive Player of the Year. His exceptional performance resulted in him being named the winner of the Adolph Rupp Trophy, an award given to the best player annually in men’s NCAA Division I basketball.

In 2013, the Orlando Magic selected Victor Oladipo as the second overall pick during the NBA draft. His debut year in the NBA saw him named into the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Following his success at Orlando Magic, Victor was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016 and, subsequently, to the Indiana Pacers in 2017. It was during his stint with the Pacers that Victor reached the peak of his career, becoming an NBA All-Star for the first time, leading the league in steals, and winning the NBA Most Improved Player Award. However, his prosperity was met with challenges, including a season-ending injury he suffered in January 2019. Despite these setbacks, Victor continued to impress, earning a selection into the Eastern Conference All-Star reserve team for two consecutive years.

In 2021, Victor was traded to the Houston Rockets before being transferred to the Miami Heat just two months later. A string of unfortunate events continued to follow him as he underwent yet another season-ending surgery after only playing four games with Miami. However, he made his return in March 2022.

Apart from basketball, Victor Oladipo has delved into the music industry, exhibiting his singing skills. He released his debut EP, “Songs for You,” in 2017, followed by his first full-length album, “V.O.” in 2018, and an Afrobeats-inspired EP, “TUNDE” in 2023. He also showcased his talent on season 2 of “The Masked Singer,” where he competed under the guise of “Thingamajig” and even finished in fifth place.

Throughout his career, Victor Oladipo has shown remarkable resilience, overcoming significant hurdles, especially with injuries.
