Keels was offered his first NCAA Division I scholarship merely three games into his high school career by Wake Forest. By the end of the season, he was recognized as a consensus five-star recruit and found his name amongst the premier shooting guards of the 2021 class.

The next monumental moment in Keels’ career came on April 2, 2021, when he announced his commitment to Duke, choosing them over other top-tier colleges like Virginia, Villanova, and Kentucky.

His debut game, a thrilling 79–71 victory against Kentucky, saw him astonishing everyone by scoring 25 points. He finished his first season with Duke averaging 11.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, earning him a place on the ACC All-Rookie Team. By the end of the season, Keels had announced his intent of entering the 2022 NBA draft.

On June 1, 2022, he confirmed his decision to stay in the draft, thereby opting out of his remaining college career. The 2022 NBA draft saw Keels being chosen as the 42nd overall pick by the New York Knicks. By July 10, 2022, he had signed a two-way contract with the Knicks.

However, his association with the Knicks went through ups and downs. Initially, on February 23, 2023, the Knicks provided him with a 10-day contract, which came to end on March 5. Following his stint with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G League, he was back with the New York Knicks by March 12 on another two-way contract.

On July 19, 2023, Keels underwent another contractual agreement with the Knicks. Yet, he was waived on July 26. A couple of months later, on September 28, he was signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the stint lasted less than a month as on October 20, he was waived again. Keels then joined the Iowa Wolves nine days later.

On September 25, 2024, he marked his return to the Timberwolves only to be waived the next day. In a quick turn of events, on October 25, he found himself back where he had gained considerable fanfare – with the Iowa Wolves.
