Timmy Allen's Biography

Timmy Allen, an American professional basketball player, was born on January 9, 2000. As of writing, Allen is carving out a name for himself as a professional basketball player in the prestigious BNXT League, proudly donning the Filou Oostende team uniform. However, his journey to professional basketball success has dovetailed his adolescent and college years, making the sport an indelible part of his life’s blueprint.

Allen spent his childhood years honing his skills in a plethora of sports such as baseball and football. Still, his boundless love for basketball set it apart from the rest. His high school years saw Allen attending Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Arizona, where he played his first step into the competitive world of varsity basketball. His sophomore year performance was impressive, with an average of 21.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

His mother’s battle with cancer led Allen to transfer to Red Mountain High School for his junior year as it was closer to his mother’s treatment center. Despite facing transfer rules, which meant a pause on games for his first nine games, Allen unleashed solid performances once back in-action. As a senior, his on-court exploits yielded 29.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

In addition to his high school games, Allen set foot in Amateur Athletic Union basketball for the Compton Magic. His playing prowess saw him universally considered as a four-star recruit, atop player from his home state of Arizona in the class of 2018, based on the 247Sports basketball Raven Taylor. He received offers from renowned colleges such as Iowa State, Texas Tech, San Diego State, and UCLA, but ultimately accepted an offer to play for Utah on September 19, 2017.

His freshman year at Utah earned him a steadfast reputation, leading to triumphant wins over Colorado and California as he doubled-down with impressive points, setting a season-high score of 24 points in a game against Oregon State. This inaugural college year ended in a high note with him earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors.

In his sophomore season, Allen underwent a transformation, losing 25lbs, with key players graduating or transferring, he stepped in and alchemized his stylings into a leading role. On December 4, 2019, he scored a career-high with 27 points, coupled with five rebounds and five assists in an overtime victory against BYU. This budding young talent contributed to another significant win, scoring 25 points that led Utah to a 69-66 upset victory over the highly-ranked Kentucky. His well-rounded sophomore year included average scores of 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, three assists, and 1.2 steals per game, culminating his name emerging on the Second Team All-Pac-12. Notably, he was the only Power Five player that season to attain this record.

The winding down of his sophomore year occured with his surprising declaration for the 2020 NBA draft, only to be withdrawn, with him opting to return to college. Back for his junior year, Allen’s stunning performance continued unabated, averaging 17.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, which allowed him to bag First Team All-Pac-12 honors.

Upon attaining a coaching change at Utah, Allen found his new home in Texas, where he excelled, being named to the Second-team All-Big 12 and the All-Newcomer Team. His spectacular feat was unveiled on February 11, 2023, with him scoring his 2,000th point during a victorious match against West Virginia.

Despite a temporary setback of going undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, Allen was undeterred. He joined the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2023 NBA Summer League and was later signed by the squad in October. The partnership was ephemeral as Allen was waived off, only to join the Memphis Hustle, marking impressive averages across multiple games. Allen moved up to the BNXT League in 2024, signing a contract with Filou Oostende.

Behind the scenes of his professional journey, Allen’s resilience was built on personal strife. His mother, Elise, battled breast cancer throughout his high school years. Her unfortunate passing in his junior year left an impactful imprint on him, instilling in him a newfound strength to soldier through his journey. His family’s basketball legacy is carried on by his older brother, Teddy, who had played for West Virginia, Nebraska, New Mexico State Aggies, and is currently with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, encapsulating a family steeped in love and passion for basketball.
