Charles Richardson was a distinguished English Royal Navy officer born around 10th March 1769, marked by his valuable services, significant combats, and enduring leadership. His eventful career began in 1787 when he set sail with HMS Vestal. Initially destined for China, the voyage was interrupted, and Richardson instead found himself serving on the East Indies Station. The enduring strength of Richardson’s spirit would not be deterred by this sudden change in plans, preparing him for the multitude of challenges he would face over his career.

In the ensuing years, Richardson transferred to HMS Phoenix, where he courageously fought in the Battle of Tellicherry. His heroism echoed on the waves as he transitioned to HMS Circe, partaking in the mutiny at Nore, a turning point in maritime history. His steadfastness was further proved in the Battle of Camperdown, where he was instrumental in capturing Jan Willem de Winter, showcasing his tactical prowess.

Richardson’s imminent reputation propelled him to partake in the Battle of Callantsoog and the infamous Vlieter incident. From there, he voyaged to Egypt, characterizing his seafaring life with confrontations at the battles of Abukir, Mandora, and Alexandria.
