Isaiah Hartenstein is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in New York City on May 5, 1998, he moved to Germany with his family at a young age. Hartenstein attended high school in Germany and began playing professionally for Zalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) at just 16 years old.
Hartenstein was part of a successful youth program at Zalgiris Kaunas and represented them in several international tournaments. In 2016, he led Zalgiris to win both the Baltic League Championship and FIBA U18 European Championship as well as being named MVP of U18 Europeans. As a result, Isaiah earned a spot on ESPN’s Top 100 International Prospects list ranking him 75th overall following his impressive performance during U18 Europeans.
In 2017, Hartenstein declared for the NBA Draft but withdrew after not receiving any invites to private workouts or interviews with teams leading up to draft night. He then returned to play one more season with Zalgris before signing with Liaoning Flying Leopards of China’s Basketball Association (CBA). During his time in China, Isaiah continued developing as an all-around player averaging 14 points per game while shooting 42% from three-point range alongside 7 rebounds per game over 30 games played throughout 2018-2019 season.
Thanks to its impressive performances overseas, Hartenstein was once again put among top prospects when entering 2019 NBA Draft where Houston Rockets used their 43rd pick overall selection him by trading into second round that same night. After becoming part of Rockets franchise he has been mainly assigned towards G League affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers showing great promise through first season averaging 11 points along 8 rebounds plus 1 block per game while also displaying solid guard skills like ball handling and court vision abilities which allow him be able offensive threat regardless position on court.
As 2021 starts Isaiah continues developing himself on G league level hoping find way back onto main roster soon after proving capabilities against professional players eventually making long awaited jump from overseas basketball onto one most challenging stages world can offer: NBA courts
