Hailing from San Luis Obispo, California, Cody Leron Williams stands tall among the names in the basketball arena. Born on November 20, 2004, Williams is recognized as an American professional basketball prodigy who currently graces the court as a member of the Utah Jazz in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Cody moved to Gilbert, Arizona at a young age with his family, where he spent most of his formative years. In Gilbert, he attended Perry High School, an institution that supported his nascent love for basketball and played a significant role in polishing his inherent skills. His talent did not take long to manifest itself, as he earned the title of Premier Region Player of the Year during his junior year. This recognition came after Williams consistently performed phenomenally on the court, averaging 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game, ultimately leading Perry to secure the Class 6A state championship.
As a senior, Cody’s stats rose impressively, with the rising star averaging 18.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and four assists per game. Once again, his skill and leadership saw Perry High School take home another state championship, only having a single loss against thirty wins throughout the season.
In 2023, Williams was given the opportunity to perform on a much bigger platform, where he was chosen to play in the esteemed 2023 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game during his senior year. His unmatched talent did not go unobserved as he was also selected to play for Team USA in the prominent Nike Hoops Summit.
During the same year, Cody was celebrated as a consensus five-star recruit and exalted as one of the top players of the 2023 class. This appraisal resonated through the major recruiting services that validated his worth as a top-tier player. His undeniable potential led him to a pivotal decision made on November 9, 2022, where he committed to playing college basketball for Colorado. His commitment saw him beat out competing offers from LSU, Arizona, UCLA, and USC. Williams set a new standard for Colorado, becoming their highest-ranked committed recruit, and the first five-star recruit in Colorado’s history.
On June 26, 2024, Cody’s talents saw his dreams become a reality. He was picked tenth overall by the Utah Jazz in the all-important 2024 NBA Draft. He officially penned down his commitment by signing with the Utah Jazz within a week, on July 2nd.
Cody’s journey with Team USA continued on an international stage, where shortly after the draft he was named to represent his country in the under-19 basketball team. He participated in the 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup under the expert guidance of his college head coach, Tad Boyle.
Cody’s inherent passion and proficiency in basketball arguably come from his strong family ties to the sport. He is the younger son of Ron and Nicole Williams, who also parented Jasmine and professional NBA player Jalen Williams. His brother, Jalen, is a current member of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA, further testament to the basketball prowess running through the Williams family bloodline.
